BIB He's a winger? Didn't know he played rugby!! Anyway try telling Helen that she could do so much better and see what answer you get!! Steve Backshall is a superb broadcaster, very talented author, passionate conservationist and by all accounts one of the sweetest nicest people you could hope to meet. He has faced situations in the expeditions he has done that would have most of us gibbering with fear but he is also a big softy if you watch the emotion he displayed after Helen won her gold medal!


Sorry to go on about this but I don't think he said any such thing. I'm willing to believe that he and Ola did not get on but I never heard him insult her like that. Whatever he thought he's an experienced enough broadcaster not to say such things (and I don't think he would anyway). Looking back I think that Steve, who is the sort of person who loves a challenge, felt very frustrated that this was one challenge he couldn't overcome although he did incredibly well considering that he was dancing with a fused ankle and was often in a lot of pain.



Well your comment about the picture sounded to me like it was aimed at G&G. Apologies if it wasn't - Maybe I just assumed it was based on past experience!

I'm purposely avoiding this thread because it's downright pathetic. From both sides.

When it comes to Georgia being slagged off for where she stands in a group photo then you know there's absolutely no point.
(Not that I'm saying you were doing that. I agree with your comment about Rachel, think she's a lovely lady and I like how she keeps herself very private.)

Every time Georgia is mentioned something is said against her. No matter how small or pathetic. And if a GG fan dares to make a comment in this thread its always us who are blamed for starting the bickering again. It's been done again, over this new argument. 'GG fans up in arms' - It's always our fault isn't it? Everyone can snipe and slag off Georgia to their hearts content but soon as anyone dares say anything against that, anything positive or sticks up for Georgia its 'oh here we go again, the GG fans are kicking off.'

This is a public forum and this thread is a public thread. It's not an anti Georgia thread. People are well within their rights to say whatever they like about Georgia. Negative or positive.

Personally, I don't see why any of my fellow GGers bother posting in here. The way it always turns out, with us being to blame, is ridiculous. That's why I don't bother. Apart from now as I felt rude to ignore posts directed at me

I agree with a lot of what you say, but there's been a fair bit of needling going on on both sides. It's fair enough to stick up for Georgia etc. but to do so by calling various other female contestants cold/personality-free/implying the rest of the cast didn't like them because they don't talk on social media/saying everyone who isn't a fan of Georgia is jealous and 'hates' her because she is so beautiful and has a lot of Twitter followers or something, probably isn't the best way to do it. There have been a lot of things said which could be interpreted as digs at Georgia but some of the things written about Pixie in particular have been overtly nasty. I don't know whether coming right out with mean comments makes it better .

When people were posting reviews of Pixie's show (and as far as I know hadn't mentioned Georgia at the time) someone repeatedly posted links to unfavourable reviews, then cut and pasted the entire text just to make sure everyone read it, with accompanying unkind comments. I don't think either side can take the moral high ground.

I say this as someone who wasn't a fan of Pixie, Anita, Caroline, Helen or Georgia on the show, and as you say everyone can post what they like so I should probably stay out of it as well

OK hands up - and I like Helen too. Pixie not so much. but this followed weeks of really nasty digs at Georgia and suffocating over enthusiasm over Helen, the awful plastic Pixie and several other young women who didn't happen to be called Georgia
This included links and praise enough to make your hair curl - even in an appreciation thread we would have thought the posters were becoming totally obsessed and sad !
At least bringing reality to the thread for ten minutes stopped the attacks on Georgia which made a nice change.
Damning one woman by overpraising another has become an art form here, and nudge, nudge 'look I got a good one in there' must be the subject of all their PMs - if they didn't start these threads to attack Georgia (It is Georgia rather than GG which almost naturally seems very sexist) they would just post their family news to each other and tell each other how super duper they are and how much they fully agree with each other !
It is a great pity they don't use their energy in posting in the appropriate appreciation threads about the favoured few where they would be talking to like minded people and no one would disturb them.

Since you ask I think coming 'right out with it' is a great deal more honest than posting the speculation that the rest of the cast of BAT would be terribly devastated when Pixie left for example - implying that they would hate Georgia - I would speculate that it will be very much the reverse, Georgia has the habit of making friends where ever she works and as Pixie doesn't appear to have any rapport with her male co-stars on stage (See most reviews) I can only see them having a great deal more with Georgia !

Thanks for the reply Star. My only problem with G&G fans is that they get personal with the posters. If there is something negative about them, then defend your celebrity by all means, but no need for name calling.

I have no problem with Sandy saying that Georgia is more popular than some others, that is her opinion and she is entitled to it and we never called her a hater.

All I ask is stop insulting posters and just defend your celebrity.

Well this is exactly right.
Virtually every time Georgia is mentioned on here someone makes something negative out about it - that's not my opinion, that's a fact.
People are entitled to hold and express negative opinions of course (though I would sometimes question how appropriate they are considering this is a thread about people benefiting from the show, but that's only my opinion) but they should accept that they may well be challenged.


I don't view this like a game of 'sides', i.e. fans of GG v everyone else. Us GG fans are our own people, and though we are indeed fans of GG it does not define us.

So, speaking for myself, I challenge anyone to find a negative post I've made about a celeb on here. I've praised Pixie on several occasions for her BAT performances, and in particular her singing - which is the only bit I've seen! Last night I picked out a very positive review of that play Helen's involved in, in the hope of stimulating some positive discussion and with the exception of one poster it was pretty much ignored, which I found a little surprising considering very many people on here are interested in what Helen's up to. It's of course entirely people's prerogative what they discuss, but I was disappointed that, given this is a thread about how people benefited from the show that discussion following my posting of Helen's review moved almost straight onto Georgia and Giovanni being criticised for supposedly blocking people out of a photo - just my opinion.

With regards to the comparison you draw between criticism of Georgia and Pixie, I agree that both have come under criticism at different times as would be expected on a forum (though I haven't criticised either myself).
But, the fact is that virtually every time Georgia is mentioned something negative is construed from it, and generally two, three or more posters join in the criticism.
Whereas, the fact is that Pixie is not criticised virtually every time she is mentioned, and I certainly don't recall a time when two or more people have criticised her.

My essential point is that there is a theme whereby virtually every time Georgia is mentioned she is criticised, no matter what she is done and how small or innocuous it may be - that does not happen to any other celebrity on here. People are entitled to criticise her, but as I've expressed before I find it slightly disappointing that she receives so much criticism especially considering that this is a thread about who has benefited from the show.

I've expressed in my previous post that our GG fans are not one homogonous block so I object to the fact that you say 'G+G fans get personal with other posters' - I'm a GG fan, and have never personally called any names. And I'm yet to find the post in which you've been called a hater.

I agree there is no need for name calling, so if you could retract the slightly cheeky remark you made to me in this post, that would be a start.
