Tablet for writing
Looking for some advice please. I do exam marking and I'm looking to purchase a tablet to mark them in pdf form. I would be writing on the papers in an app then sending them back. I have an iPad mini which I've tried using but I found the screen too small and difficult to use a stylus with. The tablet would not be used for anything else as it would be paid for by my college. Can anyone recommend anything please?

You would have to import the PDFs onto the tablet, find some good PDF editing software, and them export them all back afterwards. A PC tablet like the Linx 1010 would probably be the most flexible option. |

Print them, mark then scan and email back. I've been able to do the multiple choice papers on the mini easily as they are a tick or cross but anything that requires writing is very untidy with a stylus. I've used the pdf reader app.

If you have an access to W8.1 computer have a look at Xodo Docs in the store to see what it can do, it's for free. You open the PDF file and you can edit it. You can draw with finger/ mouse/ stylus or you can touch to place a textbox and type in the text with a keyboard. I am using it now on my Surface 3 Pro (just to try it out) and it's pretty nice. I'd say you need 10'' screen to use it comfortably, something like Surface 3, it has an aspect ratio 3:2 which is probably better than 16:9 for what you need it for. You don't necessarily need the touch/ type cover if you want to use it with touch mainly. You would need to put it on a table to use the cover comfortably for typing. Or there might be some cheaper brother like Linx, etc, but I think Surface 3 would be just the right thing.

That sounds like a lot of hassle. How do you normally do marking?

I second this - the linx 1010b comes with a detachable keyboard. As it has two usb ports, easy to connect a mouse as well. To edit pdfs without a mouse and keyboard is a bit of a PITA.

I think the OP wants to use a stylus. How good is the Linx with a stylus? The Surface Pro 3 is pretty good, but obviously a lot more expensive.
Actually I do not know as it does not have a stylus as standard, but I do edit pdfs using keyboard and mouse quite often (I am not that good with freeform tools tending to produce output which arachnids would be proud of). |
