I hadn't considered the slot might be used for a Vaughan sport slot. Nice move.

We really are spoilt for choice for humorous Saturday mid-morning shows on UK radio.

Vaughan
Frank Skinner
Russell Kane
Jon Richardson & Matt Forde
Rhod Gilbert
Graeme Norton (to a lesser extent)

I'd bet the kickabout is effectively 'The Warm Up' that he did at Talksport

Wonder what Chris Moyles was hinting at during his rant at 06:30 this morning?

Do presenters get paid for best of shows, seeing as they have already been paid once for the content?

Would imagine they get paid a rate to put the show together and record extra links etc

He went on about how great Radio X was but it was still a struggle getting people to convert to DAB, sounds like the bosses had words and he had to reign it in, thinking he's using the digital only as an excuse why his no.s are nowhere near what he achieved on Radio 1. Rajar results are coming up so he's probably planning his response if the figures are not what they wanted.

Also moaned about still only being on 'crappy' mono, so despite all those who say it doesn't matter Chris obviously thinks it's an issue.

Well it is a struggle, especially in cars. Most people wouldnt get a DAB setup for their Car, I recently changed my Honda Jazz, to a new Jazz, which has DAB Bluetooth and all that but the model they were selling until last year had no DAB.

Before that, I was listening to moyles by recording the 1st hour from 6.30 on my Iphone, using Tune In Radio, then playing it back via the AUX input!!!

By adding Moyles on Sat, I seriously doubt they are disappointed in him in any way!!

From what Jon Holmes said this afternoon, this new weekend schedule was kind of forced on them, his contract wasn't up for renewal yet so they didn't know he was leaving until the last minute it seems.

As Moyles described this morning Jon tunneled his way out of the Global building like a prison escape leaving the rest of them still stuck inside, so Radio X breakfast show fully acknowledging the schedules changes are down to his departure.

Interesting that Moyles stated his Saturday show won't just be best ofs but will feature lots of new content all be it pre-recorded

I know he gets 5 days a week, but will the 1-4pm on a semi national network (D2) on a brand new station with little promotion really get more listeners than he got doing weekend breakfast on a higher profile station available nationally on D1 and in FM in two large cities?

I guess the demotion was a knock back for Jon but think Radio X was the bigger gig than he has now, hopefully he left on good terms so if Talk Radio goes bust he'll have the option of a return on Radio X, the 1-4pm slot is lacking some personality!

How much you can read into these things, is of course debatable but from the little things the team say, I think they prefer not playing music.

Chris was pretending just now that the Saturday show will be live and drunken after an all-nighter.

The promos are also suggesting that he has to get up on a Saturday to do it.

Funny, but presumably all completely untrue.

How does that work exactly? If his contract wasn’t up for renewal yet how did he leave? The whole point of contracts is security for both the presenter and the radio station. I can’t see how he ‘surprised’ the station unless he broke his contract and walked...?

Some new content (albeit pre-recorded) will certainly help attract listeners who already listened during the week. Much like they do with the podcast. And the good thing with Moyles is if you ask him for a few minutes of extra content you’ll probably get about 20 minutes worth, as is the case with the podcast.

.
Contracts do get broken, I'm guessing some kind of financial penalty would have occurred.

Yeah theres a couple of weird things - why was Jon allowed to say on air against usual Global "he never existed" protocol. And why did they let him get out of contract.

Odd that he seems to have left on very good terms - I wonder if he'll be back at some point..

On the show yesterday, Jon said that he needed lawyers to get him out of the contract.

Getting lawyers involved to get him out of his Radio X contract... doesn’t sound like he left on very good terms to me!

They seem to have mellowed a bit in recent years in terms of letting some people stay on air. Simon Bates and Lynn Parsons were allowed to stay on for a bit at Smooth after being told they were being let go. Plus the departing XFM presenters were allowed to do proper goodbye shows.

Why is he discussing this on Talkradio
He was doing a "Diversity Paper Review" with Jonny, one of Paul Ross' producers (who actually posts on DS as jonjons) and in the banter that followed Jonny showed him the Radio X schedule showing a Moyles best of, the point being that Holmes was irreplaceable. So the conversation led to Holmes saying that people thought he was seeing out his contract at the weekend but in actual fact he was trying to get out of it and it was so difficult he needed lawyers.
