Kobo and Win 10
Millie1366

Good morning - help would be appreciated.

Just getting the hang of my Kobo and have read quite a few books on it. Still seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes.

Anyway had email from library my book is ready to download. So went through usual process and it had a problem needed to download something....

So now I am thinking Win 10 update on Wednesday night! So googled Win 10 & Kobo and found this - is this relevant? Anyone who has a Kobo and can help I would be really grateful.

Mind you I have only had my Hobo (that sounds like the right word for it at the moment) KOBO - a few months and I honestly am not sure what Edition I have downloaded - sorry - but it worked before Win 10

Thank you

That link is to an app to read your Kobo library books on a tablet/ phone. It would help if you included here the exact error message you are getting, the problem can be anywhere.

Thank you

It says: Oops! This document couldn't be opened by Adobe Digital Rights Management and is not currently authorised for use with your Adobe ID. Please sign in with the Authorized Adobe ID and try again. www. kobo.com/help.

I had no problems before downloaded from my Library (public).

UPDATE:

I have just gone into Adobe Digital and followed instructions I found to Authorize Computer. It will not highlight this because message states my computer already authorized. Which i would expect as I have downloaded books before.

So is it working now? It's possible that upgrading of the OS led to an invalidation of the authorisation. If not, I'd try to unauthorise it and then authorise it back.

No - it's not working I will try your suggestion. BUT - sorry to be if I de-authorise will that take the books off my Adobe Digital Editions?

Thank you

Not sure, it's been ages I used it. So better copy the books on the side in case ADE decides to delete them.

Still not working! Problem is it would help if I could understand computer technology. It has to be Windows 10 that caused it.

I have tried downloading another book just in case I was barking up the 'wrong tree' still no good.

What does it say exactly? Also if you can, authorise another computer and try there.

Cannot try another computer - only one.

What I do not understand it will load from county library onto computer and I can see in Adobe Digital Editions 4.5 the book. I can read the book onto the laptop.

I plug in KOBO - when it comes up on ADE - I pik up book and drag across to KOBO.

Message comes up on screen in KOBO saying 'Protected by DRM not currently authorized for use with your ADOBE ID'.

Have de-authorised and authorised again, tried another book, just spent all morning and getting no further. So frustrating and thank you for trying to help.

UPDATE - just found this -

So it looks as if the Kobo reader is not authorised with the correct Adobe ID, there's a mismatch Do you have more Adobe IDs? Do you have other DRMed books on the reader that you can read? I'd try to re-authorise the reader, but I would not want to make it worse for you...

Have done re-authorize. I have even tried updating ADE and it tell me I have the latest!

What annoys me is I can read book on laptop! So its got to be KOBO not right isn't it.

Such a pity I was enjoying it, I wondered if I phone library tomorrow and see if anyone has a KOBO and might be able to help.

UPDATE

Is this a clue? I am computer 'illiterate' - I do not understand 'overdrive' v ADE

I think it's best if you ask in the library, they may have changed something, too, or they can tell you if you are doing something wrong or if there really are some issues with W10.

I will do and if it is useful I will come back and report it in case someone else gets the same problem.

Well I am still going around in circles - it would help if I understood more about 'files'. The library is really trying to help and are in contact with OverDrive Support and they send me instructions.

I did manage to download a book finally last night - tried another for good measure and it didn't work. I just feel now i have no 'routine' it feels like 'hit & miss'.

So a new day tomorrow and feeling a little down that what is supposed to be a simple task now isn't.

You didn't need to start another thread, as the issue is almost certainly with the PC.

I don't use ADE, but this looks useful:
“Authorizing with an Adobe ID or Vendor ID
The first time you open a protected book, ADE will ask you to authorize your computer. The best way to do this is to supply an Adobe ID or Vendor ID, associating the book with your ID. If you later open the book on another computer, you can simply supply the same ID to open the book.

If you don’t have an Adobe ID, click the Create an Adobe ID link. After creating the ID on the Adobe website, you can close that browser window, return to ADE, and enter the newly-created Adobe ID.

Authorizing without an ID
If you choose to authorize without an ID, ADE will enable reading of the book only on your computer. You will not be able to read it on other eReader devices or other computers (or the same computer if you re-install). If you don’t plan on moving your books to other computers (or re-installing), this approach will work for you.”
