What about this bloke then?

He was in Skins as well. He played Sid who was always seen with a hat on. I think he would be a good choice if SM chooses a male companion.

I agree with you, but I have been told several times in this forum that we can no longer have two guys in the Tardis (despite how good Troughton and Jamie were together). Apparently there is some kind of quota system going on and, as long as The Doctor remains male (as he should), the (main) companion will always be female. Apparently this is why The Doctor shucks off male companions as fast as he can these days, but he allows just about any female the run of the Tardis.

But then it was hardly ever just Troughton and Jamie. Other than introductory stories where the new female arrived, they always had Ben/Polly, Victoria or Zoe with them as well

That is a valid point, but Jamie, for the longest time, was the primary companion while the seasonal female companions came and went (and, as such, there were times when it was just him and The Doctor in the Tardis). Nowadays, men are only begrudgingly allowed onto the Tardis and only if they are the love interest of the (always primary) female companion.

The Doctor has had the chance this century to pick up several male companions. He even turned one down cold when the potential companion asked to go with him (the fake tour guide and Earth history buff from the Christmas Special with the Titanic spaceship). He only takes on board males if the primary female companion insists on them coming along and then he ditches them as soon as he can (think Adam).

I am just saying that, if you wanted a nice change of pace with the companion, make the companion male and not the ever-so-amazing, really, really pretty, even-ever-more-amazing-and-special-than-the-last-one, 20 something female.

That is what has gotten really, really stale; with the exception of Donna, all of the rest of the 21st Century long-term primary companions are all variations on that theme.

It seems like next week we're getting announcements for Class, so my guess is that they'll leave the companion announcement until the first half of April.

I bet the new Companion wasn't in Marks and Spencer holding an avocado, deciding what to put in a salad, when they heard that they had been chosen for the part!

What about having a companion from a Doctor Who comic stories brought into the 10th series? I have had a brief look and there's a companion called Heather McCrimmon who travelled with the Tenth doctor in the Doctor Who Adventures magazines comic strips.

Here's a link to her wikia page:

What about Hannah Spearitt portraying her?

How about Lady Christina de Souza played by Michelle Ryan returning as a full-time companion?

Oh no. No, no, nononono.

Not unless she gets eaten by a Dalek.

I was definately on the policeman's side when it came to her Ladyship! Rich, bored and played without any (desperately needed) charm, I recall. (Admit I haven't watched the episode since 2009...wasn't impressed.)

My little brother had it on last year and I found it just as god awful as I'd remembered. Unbearably cheesy to the point where it made Glee look like a dark and mature thriller and Christina de Souza was almost Melanie Bush levels of horrendous.

I didn't think she was that bad, I certainly agreed with the IDEA of her, as having a super confident, wealthy and morally dubious Companion would have been an interesting contrast to the usual main Companions.

I liked her too and think she'd make a good (short term) companion for a story or two, despite obviously being inspired by Lara Croft. As we've left her, she's a bit like an Earth bound River. It'd be great to see her reaction to the wonders of the universe - and a fun story or two like Time Heist or the series Hustle and have her moral compass adjusted (a little).

What about Jake Simmonds played by Andrew Hayden Smith who featured in three episodes of Series 2. Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel and Doomsday.

Really? What the hell? He's 32, he shouldn't have retired from acting.

Jack Gleeson, who played Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones, is only 23 and retired from acting after his character was killed off, despite many people feeling he was a brilliant actor and had a lot of potential. He initially wanted to pursue an academic career but then seemed to decide he simply no longer wanted a career in acting. It's just something that doesn't capture everyone.

I would love to see either Gemma Arterton or Anna Friel cast as the new companion.

Far too famous and expensive!

I imagine they'll go for someone relatively unknown

What about Sally Sparrow? Carey Mulligan would make a great companion! I know she moved to America to star in a lot of Movies over there, but she could take a year out to film her parts for a series of Doctor Who, surely.

Failing that, what about Grace Holloway played by Daphne Ashbrook from The TV Movie? I liked her.

Also, Georgia Tennant (formerly Moffett), back as Jenny? She definitely needs to come back.

I agree. I'd go along with her as a choice.

I like that idea in a companion and it is what i want in the next. But not her, she would be a really poor choice.
