It's gonna be someone new. Hopefully this month finally tells us who as we've waited long enough at this rate.

I have a feeling the companion won't be officially revealed until May or June, but I'm hoping it will be in the next few weeks.

The casting is interesting, but what's just as interesting is whether this is going to be a 'one season only' companion or if she will survive through to the Chibnall era and (potentially) a new Doctor.

Jessie Buckley. I quite liked her in War and Peace. Tuppence Middleton was in it too and she would be a good choice but I'd think she be less likely to be interested. Sophie Rundle I like. I would love for it to be Felicity Jones but obviously that's not happening. Would also love it if they brought back Jessica Raine as a new character but obviously that's also unlikely. I can't stand the Corrie twits Keegan or GMF so I hope they aren't considered.
If it's a male companion then Alexander Vlahos. |

![]() I'm hoping they will reveal who it is before April ends. ![]() I think a companion should be impressed by the Doctor... it kinda silly for them not to be, this is a person that makes Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking look like child's play.... but hey its whimsical and clever and amazing so be quite... |

So a companion who is not impressed by the Doctor, is feisty and doesn't take him seriously... hmm what's that sound like.... oh that's right every Moffat character

Its not so much about making it so she is 'not impressed' by the Doctor but portraying her as his equal. Like it or not that is the mood of the time, 'the zeitgeist' if you like. So yes, of course the character will fit that mould. And you're being disingenuous to say it is 'all Moffat characters'. It was all RTD companions too (in fact Moffat is just continuing what he established) so don't turn it into a groundless Moffat bitch. If Chibnall were creating the character he too would do the same thing. An old style companion would not fly in contemporary culture. As to it being a woman: anyone who expects otherwise is totally delusional. A show with the female fanbase Doctor Who has now is going to ditch the female lead in favour of a second male lead? Hardly. It would be an incredibly stupid move. |

But if you met Hawking or Einstein without any prior knowledge of them, who they are and what they'd achieved you may not necessarily be impressed. At least, not at first. In this day and age respect has to be earned and it's not given just because they're a person in authority.
Likewise with the Doctor. Even once the companion has begun to realise his abilties and something of his history, he still needs them to have opinions of their own and not always follow him with a "yes sir" and a tug of the forelock. He treats companions, these days, as equals even though they're clearly not. And even though they're not his equal they sometimes teach him a lesson. |

Surely, if they've cast someone, they'll have to announce it soon. I doubt they'll be able to keep it secret for long, it's sure to leak eventually.

I don't want a companion going around saying yes sir and just there to serve the Doctor and big him up or something like that, couldn't be further from what I would want... The people who meet and know The Doctor should be impressed and taken back by him as he's this super intelligent alien.. the fact he's an alien would be enough but also with a space/time machine the companion(s) would be amazed by him, impressed by him.. but that's nothing to do with being equal to him, that's a separate thing... you make the characters equal by them both being well rounded well written characters with agency and flare who have something to offer to whatever is going on.. The Brig disagreed with the Doctor at times, they worked together to achieve things, they were friends, and the Brig was impressed by The Doctor, as anyone would be.. When you have companions like Amy and Clara who sometimes give off the impression that what the Doctor does is nothing no big deal then that just reads false to me.. being impressed in no way diminishes them or weakens them.. we would be impressed by athletes like Usain Bolt, impressed by Einstein impressed by Superman because of what they can do... you wouldn't act oh so cool and indifferent to what they can do and are capable of... Clara was far to blasé about The Doctor and what he can do.... and that's not real.. you would be impressed... |

Hmm.. I don't think some understand what I mean by being impressed.. maybe I didn't/don't explain myself well or I misinterpret what I think it is and what Capaldi is talking about....

Clara was far to blasé about The Doctor and what he can do.... and that's not real.. you would be impressed... Clara was also shocked by the Tardis when she first entered, and she respected The Doctor a lot initially, and then basically fell in love with him. And you have to remember The Doctor was playing games with Clara, and did nothing to show why he should be essentially worshiped by Clara. But eventually they became really close friends and that was nice, so why does she need to act lesser than The Doctor? She does not, but it doesn't mean she doesn't respect The Doctor. Watch Robots of Sherwood, where she calls The Doctor a hero. Anyway my point got a little messed up, so i'll summarise. Both Clara and Amy definitely were impressed and taken back by The Doctor, but once you become close friends with someone, your perspective changes on them. You know them better, and you realise they are just a person as well. Do you think people who are friends with celebrities who aren't celebrities themselves, are taken back by whatever they do? No, i'd imagine they see them as just there friend. |

I only know of this person because it was on Pointless Celebrities, she is a bit too brown and as my partner said she has a face that looks like it's been squashed in a vice, better not be her as she is irritating as hell.
I think she looks quite attractive and would make quite a good companion. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/...4794261154.jpg |

What about Katherine Kelly as the new companion? She has been confirmed to appear in Doctor Who spin-off series Class, so maybe she could pop over into Doctor Who?

One day you meet the Doctor. And of course, it's the best day ever. It's just the best day of your life. Because, because he's brilliant, and he's funny, and mad, and best of all, he really needs you. The trick is, don't fall in love. I do that trick quite a lot, sometimes twice a day.
Since the she's constantly told other people how brilliant he is, and he will solve things. And yo be fair, the Doctor has reciprocated the compliments,

And take the mick. They can do that because they're good friends who would do anything for each other. Too many repeated overt signs of admiration from the companion would, to me, be unrealistic. A shared look or glance is often enough. In real life, after a while, people get used to anything and it becomes the norm. The real trick is, after the Doctor, once he's left you, who else is going to impress? |

It would not be realistic if people who knew him were regularly going "Wow, you're amazing". They would not have the Doctor's respect for long if they did and they'd soon be out of the TARDIS. They show their respect for him by their actions - i.e. by mostly following his advice.

DOCTOR: Right. Yes, sorry. I didn't get a chance to ask. You haven't? There hasn't been anyone? You know. In Last Christmas elderly Clara never married for similar reasons
SARAH: Well, there was this one guy. I travelled with him for a while, but he was a tough act to follow. Goodbye, Doctor. |

Whoever it is, they need to announce it soon.
The pure tedium of the official twitter is reaching new lows now. |

"They" don't "need" to do anything until "they" feel the need to do it. And that likely won't be until they start filming publicly. I think the show has suffered from a sort of publicity fatigue because from the announcement of a major casting - be it a doctor or companion - can take place so long before we actually see it.
And it also depends if they join in the Xmas special or not (and when that is being filmed). |
