Is it normal for FF HD frames to be limited?

I have just started recording programmes in HD on my PVR (V+).

Previously, when FFing SD recordings, you could see the recording being played very quickly.

Now, whenever I FF a HD recording, in the main i seems to show a frozen frame for a couple of seconds, then move onto another frozen frame.

Is this normal or could there be a fault with my equipment?

Thanks.

I have the VM V+ box and FFing HD is exactly like yours, so all is OK & there is nothing to worry about

I think this must be a ¨feature¨ of a VM box. I have two HD Freeview recorders by different manufactures and they have a smooth FF and RW in HD and SD at all speeds. The only strange playback is on BBC iplayer (and other players) where the action is frozen if I do a FF or RW and then jumps to movement when I press play.

Yes the IPlayer FF and RW is an oddity, it's a pity they can't make it more like Netflix where you are presented with a jumping string of frames, a bit like a roll of film being pulled across the screen.

I've just started using my Sky HD box for downloading various catch up TV items and of course doing it that way solves this BBC IPlayer problem.

I think the smooth action is because the playback is from the HDD that can give a continuous data stream. The internet works by sending packets of data which may not be in the correct order so the player has to buffer the packets to give the correct output.
