Chromecast question
This may seem like a silly question, but do you need an internet to stream stuff stored to the memory to a Chromecast? So say if I was staying in a caravan, had a tablet and a Chromecast (hooked up to the TV), would you be able to cast said item via the Chromecast?

You don't need an internet connection to use a Chromecast device to stream a video stored on your tablet/laptop to a TV. However you do need some sort of WiFi network that both devices can connect to.
You might be able to use a Smartphone that can create a WiFi hotspot or you could use a WiFi equipped router and ignore the internet connection part. |

The third generation Apple TV (£49 on Apple refurb site) doesn't need wifi when used with an iOS device, the connection is just between the two devices.

You still need an internet connection to inititiate a chromecast session, even if the bulk of the traffic is over a lan. Most mobile phones cannot simultaneously use wifi to connect to internet and act as a wifi hotspot, so you have to use two phones if no wifi network - one as the wifi hotspot (with the files to be streamed), and the other as the chromecast initiating device. |

I use my Nexus 5 as a hotspot for my Chromecast. I don't have broadband and it works fine.
