I agree completely with this.
I couldn't understand why Paul thought Candice was a contender for star baker, her first two bakes were mediocre at best and the showstopper was just a mess. ( but she's young and attractive so she's always going to be at sn advantage with Paul) 1. Messy signature bake 2. Mediocre in the technical 3. Maybe overreached herself in showstopper |

I know we have had the odd disaster in previous series - like ice-cream cake week but when I look back at this series there seems to have been a complete disaster every episode. There is no gadgetry, inventiveness or real flair in this series.
I think Andrew only got through this week because he did different flavoured layers as opposed to Rav's single flavour. |

Tom and Selasi, those cakes looked beautiful. Candice is getting on my nerves, when Mel and Sue sent Paul and Mary away to trim bushes, all was well until they cut to Candice winking. She thinks she's a comedienne. It's not her place to provide double entendres or in her case single entendres, she's there to bake. I'd recommend less winking and more baking. But Paul likes her, probably wants to have a look at those bushes with her.

I think you will find that Mary also comments positively about Candice... in fact i think it was Mary who said how excellent Candice's pastry and filling were. I am sorry if this play against your own personal edit. |

Taking in to account the disasters from Andrew, Rav, Tom and Selasi in round 1 Candice was up on them, and the tight technical where they were all pretty good. |

Tom was slightly surprising as star baker, but it was a mixed week all round. Glad Selasi redeemed himself with a beautiful showstopper. Candice and Jane both looked as though they over-reached themselves a bit. Benjamina looks good for the final (consistent through most weeks) and I reckon Andrew can still make it if he stays calm. Rav was a sweetheart, but he'd been hanging on by the skin of his teeth for a couple of weeks now.
Next week is going to be interesting as it everyone left can do amazing bakes (and horrific ones). On past form, Tom might go - he only really seems happy when bread gets into the challenges. |

I thoroughly enjoyed today's episode better than all the others in this series.
However the meringue and then the fougasse seemed to be very simple things for the judges to give them to bake, when this series started they said they would go back to basics and give them a easier ride, perhaps they cut down the time like others are saying but I felt it was all to do with going more homebaker type of recipes things that people would make anyway in a British household. I really thought Benjamina had it this week until the showstopper, she had a horrible time with that, that semi-nude nonsense, what was that? Its a floral cake obviously not only the filling should be floral, she should have made smaller cakes and get them in the oven quicker let them cool and then pipe out a storm like the next two I'm going to talk about. Selasi and Tom's piping skills are something to envy, I couldn't believe how quick they were with their piping, unbelievable I kept rewinding to see LOL. Candice's meringue I felt she had it (the design) the roses were good in that green and white meringue then in a moment of madness she just spoilt it in one second and all her hard work gone. I felt had she left it alone and just put it in the oven that challenge would have been good for her, but yes like others said the fougasse and meringue should have put her with the guys at the bottom of the judging. Rav again wasn't trying hard enough to impress. The meringue was all runny again why he didn't bake it I don't know only himself he knows. In the showstopper he could see and recognise that he didn't choose the right cake like the others all went out to stay on in the competition there and he didn't surely if he had done a bit more research on floral cakes he could have come up with something that was a showstopper and not go down the simple route. Rav more or less was telling us and the judges...that's it send me home now I can't be bothered to try harder. |

I thought Tom deserved it on balance. Top in two challenges, only Selasi coming close in the showstopper, both lads did amazingly well on those cakes, but Tom did genoese which is hard to get right and Mary was very impressed. However in the swiss roll challenge to come Tom was again saying he had messed up so he could be in trouble again.
Rav was the right choice to go, sweet lad but his time to go had come. I am not keen on the ladies this year, Jane is OK solid, but messed up her showstopper. |

And also it could be that many of the others have been smirking and sniggering if not throwing around double entendres but the editor decided that Candice would be the saucy one and cut the others' lewdness out.
As you write, we have to remember it is all heavily edited. |

All the accusations against Candice here are getting silly - perhaps they are getting desperate this week because they cannot complain about her lipstick. Could just as easily claim that a young man gets star baker only because Mary fancies him or the older women only because they are approaching similar age group to Mary.
As you write, we have to remember it is all heavily edited. |

I don't understand all the hoo-haa over Candice's pouting. She obviously doesn't realise she's doing it most of the time; I do the same when I'm concentrating.

I don't dislike Candice at all but she's not one of my favourites either, I'm pretty ambivalent to her really. I did think it was stretching it a bit though when Paul suggested she was a contender for star baker as all of her bakes had errors last night. |

i thought benjamina was a lock for star baker until she didn't do too great in the showstopper round. i'm really glad selasi pulled it back because he is also one of my favourites. i like jane a lot more now than when the series first started. candice was in my top 3 from the first episode along with benjamina and selasi but she's slipping for me now.

I was amazed that some of them didn't seem to know what a leaf looks like - central vein with smaller veins radiating from it. Or, if they did, couldn't relate the cuts they were being told to make as representing the veins in a leaf.

Andrew broke my heart when he welled up and said he didn't want to go. He reminds me so much of my gorgeous nephew who is away at Uni....I'm too personally involved I know.
![]() . So even though I really like Rav, was relieved Andrew stayed.Selasi just cracks me up, so laid back. Saw a great video online of little looks between him and Bejamina, like a real love story. ![]() I really wasn't keen on Tom to begin with but am really warming to him. He likes to push the boundaries with his flavours, he's a bit odd...I like him! |

I think all the remaining contestants have points in their favour and I'd be happy enough with any of them winning. That said, Tom is my favourite. As someone - Heavenly? - said, he is a bit odd and I always like the odd 'uns. I find normality overrated!

I agree, after seeing her in bolder colours without any or pale like today made her look like she's unwell. I think she's been eating too much cake and she feels as green as her meringue. I prefer she stayed with a brighter or darker lip colour.
