There may be something wrong there. Why shave your hair off and why do it on the final of the GBBO? She was so passive and apologetic on GBBO on Twitter she's combative and looking for arguments.

Candice was my favourite so not sure if you're getting the wrong end of the stick?
I'm just saying that we don't all have to like the same people but at least have a legitimate reason other than "she's Pouty McPoutFace" I doubt many have a deep detestation of Candice but if they found her more irritating than other contestants then it is reason enough to "dislike" her. It is all relative. Personally I think her pouting is an involuntary sign of thought and concentration but with some people pouting can be an intentional sign of disapproval. The fact she tends to wear bright lipstick and the actual shape of her mouth and face tend to exaggerate it too. |

I'm so pleased Candice won the Bake off, it was well deserved as she was clearly the best in the final.
Overall throughout the series in my opinion she's been the best baker, every week she went all out to produce impressive bakes, sometimes they didn't go totally to plan but she was always making such an effort to impress and she's had some incredible show stoppers. The gingerbread pub, four seasons cake, the peacock, her crown in the final and the chocolate cake in the show stopper were all particularly impressive bakes. I hope she gets lots of opportunities out of the show. ![]() Nadiya is still my favourite Bake Off winner but Candice is a close second. I loved Nadiya too. |

Watched most of the class of 2015, reminded me just how good last years bakers really were. I wasn't a fan of Ian but he was a decent baker. Candice only won because the other two messed up let's face it, until that point they were all even.

Gosh, last year's were a lot better than this years weren't they! I I hope they replay that series on one of the cable channels.
When Matt put his icing in the oven and Nadiya asked him about it and they both just stared at each other - I had forgotten how funny that was - I was in hysterics again last night watching that. Despite this year's not being quite as good at baking they do seem to be just as friendly. Lots of stuff on twitter of them all meeting up. |

I suppose the main thing is that any cohort of contestants has to be of approximately similar standard within the group.
I noticed that with this year's challenges they involved a lot of things that your average viewer could attempt at home with a good chance of success. I thought this was a good thing as many tasks from some previous series have been beyond many of us. Having some series of more complex bakes and others of more realistic ones is no bad thing in my opinion. |

Last year they went for things that were from other countries and that most of us had never heard of. Didn't they say they'd made a conscious effort this year to make the bakes more traditional to us?

Candice has been consistently good through the series and on the night was best i.e. she won. |

Isn't that usually the case most years? It could also be said of most competitions.

I've recorded Class of 2015 to watch over the weekend - sounds as though I've a treat in store.

Candice also won Star Baker more times than the other two. Compare her chocolate cake recipe with Andrew's chocolate cake recipe. She always went the extra mile and then some. Jane and Andrew were very good bakers but Candice outshone them and deserved to win. IMO she is one of the best winners of GBBO ever.
Unrelated, the Mirror seem to be trying to make a lot out of a couple of comments last night about the end of the Real Great British Bake Off Did BBC One just make a HUGE dig at Channel 4 for poaching Great British Bake Off? |

She timed it nicely, didn't she. Any other time of the year and nobody would give an F about what she thinks. You have to ride that wave.

Andrew has just tweeted a pic of him and Candice arriving at Waterstones in Birmingham.
Wish they were at one near me.

Don't think many of the tasks over the series pushed the contestants to the same extent as previous years so hard to say how they measure up but I wouldn't put Candice as one of the best (technically). |

I love the class of 2015 ... they were more talented and more likeable than this year's bunch. Perhaps the really talented people left early after a bad day but we never really got anything wow or that accomplished this year. Shoddy comes to mind.

Candice practiced a lot compared to Jane who said she hoped if she kept going she'd have it done. Andrew had an Excel sheet, but it did not help him much.
She is certainly looking very glamorous now, ready for all the media work and personal appearances! |

When you look at the stress and pressure involved in participating in this show, it's a miracle they get anyone applying to be on it. It's not just the baking aspect, it's the endless newspaper coverage, tweeting and discussions on forums like DS with contributors speculating and guessing and commenting on every action and word. And yes I'm aware I'm doing just that! You couldn't pay me to go on that show. (Mind you my baking is such that at least it'd be entertaining!)

If you'd seen / heard the interview, you'd know that Jane's comments couldn't be taken in two ways at all - she indicated that as they were actually in the tent for the final 48 hours, they could see that Candace was surpassing their efforts.
It will be made to look a much closer competition in the edit for the tv show because the production team will want to keep the who will it be ??? tension till the end. But she indicated that to her and Andrew, the winner was obvious... The technical is a much shorter test, though so wouldn't lend itself to the variety of items in the same way. The showstopper is 5 hours for a reason. (Interesting that you're spelling her name as it's been (mis?)pronounced on the show. The French influence, I think. )Quote:
I'm delighted Candice won. I find it odd that people are saying she looked smug: to me she always looked rather insecure, twitchy and anxious to please (not unreasonable in a popular, nationally televised baking competition).
Equally her response to winning seemed genuine too. How strange to declare that she 'deserves an Oscar' because of her acting: why on earth would she even bother to put on such a hugely emotional act when it is of no benefit to her at all? Somebody in control of their emotions would have been more likely to say how delighted they were and then spend a few minutes praising up the other finalists and the show generally to come across as nice and improve their chances of getting a Nadiya-style show. (And NO, I'm not suggesting that's what Nadiya did - I think she was a charming and deserving winner, too.) From the start, I've thought Candice came across as a real insecure trier, who never took the easy option. Her reaction at the final has done nothing to change my view and I'm absolutely delighted for her. Quote:
One can often dislike somebody for no rational reason. I don't think it's immature or insecure, it just happens.
