I think they should not send anyone home after week 1, and do a double elimination after week 2. We could get to know them a bit better before someone is sent home
Also they have to rush through tonight's show so quickly we barely get to see each separate bake |

Odd question I know but did anyone recognise where Mary's blazer was from. My wife really liked it.
Thanks! |

Enjoyed the first episode.
That blue icing was a shocker - I can never understand why anyone would want to make blue food. It is just wrong. |

I enjoyed the whole thing as usual. I find Val annoying, Kate twee and Jane a cross between Hayley Cropper and Vera Duckworth ( and I have never even watched Corrie
) I like Selasi.... well, I like them all really. Lee was the right one to go.SCD used to evict in the first week, but changed it a couple of years ago. I think I'd prefer 2 to go in week 2 ![]() I enjoy An Extra Slice but had forgotten it was on... thanks for the reminder. See you next week

Why do they not show the finished cakes/bakes properly when it's presented?? They've always done this, it tries me crazy (well, I find it quite annoying...) Tonight, on the show stopper, they had to get a high shine finish, but they literally showed each cake for less than a second. They spend all that time trying to get it looking perfect and instead of showing us the result, we'll get a close up of their motionless face, while everyone else is looking at their cake!
Obviously the inside important, but could they spare even just 2 or 3 seconds to show the outside? ![]()

The lady who won (was it Jane? - I will learn the names eventually) had a fabulous shine and was very elegant. The blue cake was dull and lumpy. Benjamina's white chocolate icing was beautifully shiny after all (despite the tears), but Louise's looked both dull and disturbingly puke-like. I seem to recall that the cake with sugar shards was beautifully shiny but didn't taste of much. That's all I recall off the top of my head, but I think they did show them all for enough time to allow us to see whether they had perfected a mirror shine or not. |

I thought they showed each cake before cutting into it - certainly for long enough to tell the shiny from the distinctly matt (and the frankly lumpy in some cases.

It is just wrong. one of my birthday cakes i had as a kid had blue icing. i swear i didn't have much but i felt queasy and made a dash to the bathroom and as it was dark most of it missed the sink. my god blue sick everywhere. not only did it not agree with me but not nice to look at afterwards. makes me shudder to this day. |

So do I, and it's the sort of colour that wears off after about 15 minutes so you'd need to keep retouching it and she can't while baking. I know we ought not to judge by looks but that lippie really doesn't suit her.

It's always a bit of a whirl the first couple of weeks, but thought right Star Baker (would have been Selasi but for the lack of glaze on his showstopper) and right one to go.
Think Val could be trouble next week - but you never know, biscuits sometimes prove to be someone's nemesis - sure I recall a couple of years back week 1 star baker going out week 2? |

The presenter spoils it, I am sure it could be a really good programme if they could find a better presenter.

Candice should have gone in my opinion, that genoese wasn't cooked. I'd rather have dry cake than uncooked. Yes, biscuits. I'd be totally undone by the gingerbread building challenge (that's what it looked like) - I made one a few years ago with the daughter and it was more like a run down hovel, it started to slide at one point and the roof fell in. It's given us some good laughs over the years but I think I'd be like a rabbit frozen in the headlights when they handed that challenge over. ![]()

Her lipstick totally distracted me, couldn't stop thinking of, lipstick only, this:
http://www.ew.com/sites/default/file...?itok=LTQVTfRP She does need to re-think that. There were some amazing cakes last night and agree with the poster that said no one should leave the first week as they must be so nervous. |

Candice's showstopper looked (ironically) like a jaffa cake. As for Lee, his one was a brick with strawberries crammed inside it. Last edited by fruitloop27 : 25-08-2016 at 09:58. Reason: bit more to add |

The best amateur bakers in the country - who applied to take part in GBBO
![]() I don't want to show off but I happen to be The Fourth Best Amateur Baker In The Entire Country... who lives in my house. ![]() Though getting eliminated in the first round is pretty harsh! That's show biz I guess, and (insert name) took it well.
