I get the impression that there is quite a pause after the time is up whilst they take stills of all the bakes and perhaps prepare for the judging.
It would be very interesting to see one of the bakes in real time, they obviously do not film the last couple of minutes in real time. We see several bakes that are nowhere near completion then a minute later they have to stop baking. Yeah, I noticed on running all over the place last night, then a minute later it looked perfect.. ps. Amazing viewing figures...more people watch last night than the best Olympics ratings!! 11.2 million... |

11 million watched Laura Trott then 11.1 million Jason Kenny on the Tuesday so hardly a big margin over it and probably well within the accuracy of the figures anyway at less that 1% difference.
I mean, I'm a fan of the show and the fact is it's the biggest first week audience they've ever had is a fantastic sign. Undoubtedly there were tabloid 'GBBO has peaked' stories that have had to be spiked because of it but I don't think a comparison between a peak time yearly TV show and a four yearly sporting event in the middle of the night really stands up. It's very much apples vs oranges. |

Also has to be pointed out that the Trott/Kenny events were on at 11:30 at night, whereas GBBO was on at 8PM.

But the Cycling was part of months (years) of Olympics build up, promo and on-going events. Maybe we should do the same for Bake Off... drug testing, a British Bake Uniform, loto money, destroy a some houses to make way for the tent, have someone sent home early for using a pre-made pastry...

Have just eaten the last slice of Apricot Bakewell made with fresh puréed apricots. I was amazed how much nicer than jam - less sweet

I have to say that if something went wrong for me I would hang on to the "failed" item until I had successfully prepared something better rather than throwing it across the room or binning it immediately.
Candice's first failed genoese sponge looked better than her second effort and Benjamina seemed to be having real problems with her second lot of butter icing. In the first week there is a real chance that somebody else will muck up more than you so there is a bit of wriggle room. Mind you I expect the production team liked the drama of a cake frisbee. |

They can now use that two seconds of footage as the dramatic "contestant loses it under pressure" promo clip.

sorry.![]() It appears we have the series's first twitter outrage story - apparently lots of people got rather offended at Paul dunking that jaffa cake. |

I class jaffa cake as a biscuit and at home, we dunk everything, all the time, any time! ![]() But at Gran's, it's civilised. If it's just me and her, she doesn't really care as I don't drop it all over the place, but if there's company; don't play with your food and don't dunk your biscuits - especially not your jaffa cake!

When left out in the open, biscuits go damp, cakes go dry/stale. In my experience, a Jaffa Cake left out goes dry. Therefore it's a cake! |

My yardstick is this:

I'll have one with a tea, grab one while watching tv, I've never had one at the end of a meal... but a cake I'll have as desert, a slice on a plate. So technically it's a cake, but in my heart it's a biscuit!
