It appears BBC have lost the rights and ITV will be it's likely destination.

Well that will probably be the end of the show that we all love

Love productions are just being greedy.

I hope the Beeb walk away from anything they produce in the future.

I for one won't be watching it on a commercial channel.

Well that's the end of the show as we know it then. And no doubt it will become an inferior product.

Part of me wants them to move to ITV and get Ant & Dec to host it just to see the backlash.

Maybe it could go to Amazon or Netflix to avoid ad breaks.

From Love's statement:

"This has never been about who might write the biggest cheque, but about where we can find the best home for Bake Off.

...nor were the BBC able to provide the necessary comfort for the future protection of such a distinctive and much-loved television series..."

I don't even know what that last part means, but I'm quite certain that this did end up being about who had the deepest pockets, because the BBC has done nothing but nurture and protect that GBBO brand. They've basically killed the golden goose with a grasping demand for more and more money. There's no way Mary goes to ITV or Sky, although I'd put a tiny question mark against Hollywood, as he could have been swayed by the big pay packet - and LP may have been convinced that Paul alone was enough to secure the GBBO on another channel. I really do hope that Mel and Sue hold firm to their previous stated principles, and don't go with the show across to another channel.

I've very cross and upset that this will be the final year I will enjoy this show. This was, hands down, my favourite show on TV.

Dammit! All I'm going to see is Dougal now, thanks a bunch for that!

Funnily enough Ted being a bit of fame seeker I could actually see attempting to apply for the show...Only for Dougal, Mrs. Doyle and even Father Jack to end up there instead.

Anyways back on topic!

Whilst admittedly Michael's was no where near the best, I however don't think he deserved to go this week but then that's just me.
Michael looked handsome on Extra Slice. Pity he had to go. BTW I can't imagine drinking 99% alcohol, I had 70% and it was pretty strong already.
Michael did not deserve to go at all. Think Candice should have gone

i dont get the reason they have given about "development of the brand", i cant see it getting anywhere near the viewership anywhere else

Do these production companies not look at history. Moving channels almost never works.

Exactly. GBBO is as BBC as it comes. Anyone working with the BBC needs to be mindful of the financial constraints they have and how this affects future planning.

I'm just wondering about that reported clause in the original contract that basically tied any buyer of GBBO to one year 'cooling off clause', so any new series of the show wouldn't be on air until 2018 at the earliest. Is that still correct? They couldn't just air it in late October 2017, and say 'well, it's been 12 months since the last episode'?

If so, it's an even worse deal for the viewers - we lose a much loved format on the BBC AND anyone who wants to keep watching the show has a hugely extended time without it before it's back on TV.

This article makes reference to the cooling off year:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...all-as-rivals/

Also worryingly points out Sky own a big chunk of the company that makes BO.

If I remember right, wasn't it something like £21m ITV offered?

You'd like to think that the money Auntie saved by having The Voice taken from them, they could have kept GBBO. I know that's an over simplification though.

I don't blame the BBC for refusing to pay over the odds for the show. Its a bit of a lose-lose for them. Pay too much and there'd be outcry, stick to their budget and watch one of their top shows snatched away - much to the disappointment of the fans.

I'm sure I read that there is a clause in the contract that if the production company were to change broadcaster, then there has to be a 12 month cooling off period before the program can be transmitted on another channel.
Who know what Paul and Mary will be offered in that time?!

this will probably be the last one for two years as the BBC has a one-year "holdback" written into the programme's contract, meaning that it could not air on a rival British broadcaster next year.

The big question is whether the judges and presenters will stick to their previous promise not to move from the BBC? If they are have been correctly quoted in the past then I can see them losing a lot of credibility if they 'follow the money'.
