I won't be watching it on channel four, the only thing I watch on that channel is Humans, and that is bad enough, with the constant advert breaks.
If only there were a way of cutting out the advert breaks...

Love Productions will end up spoiling the show by moving it, and I will love it if all four presenters refuse to move with it. It will serve the production company right for their utter greed.
Same here.

I hope that this backfires on them big-time.

No, the format will either be compromised (e.g. by dropping one challenge) to fit the timeslot (minus ads),
Repeats on Good Food manage to keep all the challenges in a hour slot with adverts.

or it will have the media-savvy, fame-hungry contestants that proliferate on many shows these days (meaning that the feel-good nature has gone).

Just look at how Come Dine With Me has gone, and how Gogglebox has changed as teh Boxers become aware that they are "media stars".
Why would that be an issue specific to the show being on Channel 4?

Indeed, there's some debate on the current series thread about which of the contestants are currently in it for the "fame" aspect.

And if the presenters & judges are not there, well the current team are part and parcel of what makes Bake Off what it is.
That's about my only concern over the switch. The "foursome" are part of the draw of the programme.

But if (and yes, it is a big 'if') they can be retained then I think it's only right to give it a chance on Channel 4 before condemning it.

Last series I shall watch then.
I'll make the most of this series and leave it there. Sounds like greed to me.
I'll probably tune in for the first C4 series out of morbid curiosity but I can't see me sticking with it long term. Love's greed/behaviour has left a sour taste in the mouth.

Even if C4 retains the talent, there'll be other changes. It won't be the same with ads.

I thought that about their coverage of the Gran Prix season but it was OK, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I'm prepared to give it a try but if they change it to a show for wannabees and failed "celebrities" trying to revive their career then I'll be off. But if I don't try then I won't know if I will be surprised (one way or the other.)

Sounds like the presenters are anything but assured for Channel 4. Their statement sounds wildly hopeful instead of firmly confident that they will get the 'dream team' of presenters:

"....negotiations with show's presenters and judges - Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins, Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood - have yet to begin.

A spokesman for Channel 4 said: "We would be delighted if the presenters and judges want to come to Channel 4."

Unspoken bit: "...but we'd be amazed if they actually do!"

VERY risky of C4 to sign the format for that amount of £££ without having the "talent" pre-signed too... the makers were clever enough to hit gold first time out with Mel & Sue and Mary & Paul, and they're as much a part of the show as flour and a white tent...

The BBC could have absorbed a (small) line-up change because everything else would stay the same around it, but if any of the "big 4" don't move to C4, it will effectively be a completely different programme and they'll have spent the money for nothing... I'd imagine their agents are all rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect...

I think we all know that the show is finished now it's off to the dire realms of Ch4. Pure greed on the part of the makers. But the viewing figures will take a massive hit.
Agreed. I won't be watching after this season, I'm afraid.

The show will be completely changed - and all for the sake of greed. I hope Love Productions fall flat on their face over this one.

Just so everyone knows what happened with the figures. The GBBO currently costs BBC 8m a series. LP wanted 25m and the BBC came back with a top offer of 15m. LP representatives then left the meeting got in a taxi and went straight to C4 and signed a deal for 24m less than an hour after walking out of the BBC meeting.

There has been a lot of debate about how it will look on Channel four and people are rightly concerned. Advert breaks compromising continuity and spoiling the flow is a big concern ,as is change of presenters. Programmes with ads have this habit of constant recapping as though the audience are goldfish. It is very annoying, also they could introduce a voice over ,but dont think they will. I honestly think with all the hoo ha ,they will want to keep it as near to the original as is possible, only with adverts interrupting it every few minutes.what we dont want is contestants seeing this as a route to a media career.
If Mary doesnt move, they could get Jane Asher ,a mature cake lady.
I watch the BBC more than any other channel, due to my horrendous dislike of adverts and for those say , record it, Not everyone has that facility and anyway just skimming through is annoying too. Such a shame, but maybe with last years huge success, BBC couldnt ever top that again .

I don't really understand this attitude, condemning something before it's even had a chance.

Yes there will be adverts (so just start watching 15 minutes late) and yes there will be sponsorship (skip it as part of the ads) but otherwise the format will be basically the same.
A combination of a matter of principle and that I rarely watch Channel 4. I cannot imagine that they will improve the programme in any way and are certain to want to make changes for the sake of changes which with Channel 4's record are unlikely to improve it. Then there are the adverts .....

There is, either don't switch it on or change channels. Simple!

There isn't a minimum amount of programming you have to watch to be permitted to tune to a channel, you know. Just switch over when GBBO is on. Simple.

I cannot imagine that they will improve the programme in any way and are certain to want to make changes for the sake of changes which with Channel 4's record are unlikely to improve it.
This is exactly my point - you're absolutely certain that Channel 4 will ruin the programme, so won't even give it a chance. It's ridiculous.

Then there are the adverts .....
Which are easily skipped.

There is, either don't switch it on or change channels. Simple!
Or simply record and watch later - even if it's only 15 minutes, giving you a chance to skip all adverts and still be finished roughly when the programme finishes.

I would have loved to try Andrew's barm brack. I'm Irish and don't like the traditional recipe as it contains raisins. But I would have been very interested in a chocolate version as I always thought the bready part of the brack was nice.

Traditionally a ring is baked into the brack and we'd all be excited, hoping we were the one who'd get the ring in our slice!

Andrew's very own recipe! It does sound nice and, for GBBO recipes, pretty straightforward! Bless him for sticking with his 'controversial' single proving!

I'm more shocked that it moved to channel 4 than the show actually moving itself. I will probably tune in to see what it's like on channel 4, hopefully it will stay pretty much the same. I can deal with the ad breaks cause I'll either endure it during the programme or record it and watch it later but I do hope that Mel, Sue, Paul and Mary sign on because if none of them do or only some do it most definitely won't feel like bake off, I feel like bake off is as much about the presenters/judges as it is about the bakers and if you take away one it could ruin bake off.

But having to fast forward through ads every 12 minutes is almost as annoying as viewing the ads. It's an unwanted interruption to the continuity of the programme. Also, if C4 introduce their usual "coming up next" and "recap" around every ad break, you'd have fast forward through that dross as well.

Good for them. An island of integrity in a sea of greed.

In that case I feel that Love Productions have shot themselves in the foot. Mel and Sue did the very successful Late Lunch for Channel 4 years ago, so for them not to be prepared to move is quite telling. I am also presuming that the BBC won't be commissioning any other series of Great British Sewing Bee either, as that is owned by Love Productions as well.

like others said good for them, I'm unlikely to tune in now, which is such a shame as it was one of my favourite shows to watch.
