In that case I feel that Love Productions have shot themselves in the foot. Mel and Sue did the very successful Late Lunch for Channel 4 years ago, so for them not to be prepared to move is quite telling. I am also presuming that the BBC won't be commissioning any other series of Great British Sewing Bee either, as that is owned by Love Productions as well.
I'm gutted that they're leaving the show, but I'm absolutely sure they've made the right decision. This is looking like a terrible decision for the production company to ink a huge price tag deal without securing the moving pieces! |

"We're not going with the dough." ![]() ![]() ![]() That line makes it very difficult for the remaining 2 judges to announce their continued association with LP, and make it sound anything but money related! |

Celebrity version? It only shows that people at C4 have no clue. BBC manages over 10 million viewers with normal people, the charm of the programme is that it's normal people. Yes, they select them to cover wide demographic, but I really don't mind, it shows that you can find people passionate about baking everywhere. I don't want to watch a selection of wannabes, hasbeens, and neverbeens hogging the limelight on another reality show.

I worry that on Channel 4 Bake Off will become a bitch fest and the friendly and helpfulness of the contestants will be lost

Well done Mel and Sue
![]() Barbed statement too as it will make Paul and Mary look greedy if they return. Perhaps Love Productions will go broke when it crashes horrendously on Channel 4

Well said Mel & Sue ... Who on earth will they get to host? Many lessons to be learned from Top Gear !

I'm surprised to hear so many people giving up on the show
I am disappointed that it's leaving the BBC where it sat very well but sadly it's a done deal.Have any of the presenters said they won't be moving with the show? They'll be doing the same job but no doubt for a much larger pay packet. Of course there will be advertisements but they'll be shown in between each round, they won't interfere with the baking bits. It may be a disaster, who knows what tomorrow brings but I'm certainly willing to give it a try. |

I don't know if i will be able to watch the bake off tomorrow knowing that my once favorite programs is going to be such a change and a mess next year. Its going to die a very slow and painful death. Whoever is boss of LP does not have any idea in business.

Wonder who will host ? I can see the Sunday Brunch presenters looking to get involved (can't abide Tim Lovejoy though). It's a poison chalice though, and you would think most presenters will look at what's just happened with Top Gear, and avoid presenting the first series, like the plague. Kirsty Allsop would have me turning off ... As would Davina.

Fantastic news that Mel and Sue will not be presenting the show when it moves to Channel 4. Now all we need is for Paul and Mary to do the same.
Congrats to Love Productions. I can't wait to see Alan Carr and Kirstie Allsopp presenting the Great British Sunken Cake |

Good on Mel and Sue for not selling their souls to the devil.
I think the sticking point was that Love didn't include them in any negotiations and that they found out the same time as everyone else. They have worked for C4 before and I'm sure they'd have agreed to move if this had been done less underhand. LP's pure greed will cost them in the long run IMO. |

Yes, good for Mel and Sue.
Come on Paul and Mary; quit while you're ahead and do the right thing. Unless, of course, Love Productions made sure they would be willing to move before they put in the bid. If so, I fear Paul and Mary may have made an error of judgement. |

I thought that I would not mind it if moved channels but giving it more thought, Channel 4 dumb down almost everything they show. So it will be Bake Off with fake tans, fake boobs and contestants selling stories to the papers before they even bake anything.
I'm out |

Random thought here but what's to stop the BBC making their own version? Could they? Or would they have signed an agreement when they took the show that they can't make a rival version?

And even if not, if Mary wanted to get out she could claim health problems. It would not look good C4 harassing old frail woman.

If so, I fear Paul and Mary may have made an error of judgement. I don't post here, but have watched GBBO since the very start. I have to say that for me, Mel and Sue make the show, much more then Paul and Mary. Mostly because they are the ones interacting with the contestants, joking with them, supporting them, encouraging them. They even cry at times when sending someone home, they care. They have chemistry with them and Mary and Paul and you cannot just replicate that. Mary and Paul do not engage with the contestants, obviously for good reasons, I saw they said they try to stay aloof from them, so as not to have any bias towards them. So for me, even if they get Mary and Paul, the show will not be the same show at all. |

This is the exact type of thing BBC should do.
Once a show is popular enough for a terrestrial channel to pay the "Public good" need to make it ceases. It can now use the £15mil to develop new programs. Eastenders, Dr Who, Strictly, Match of the Day etc could all go the same way. Or put them on a digital BBC commercial channel funded by adverts. |
