Evening bakers.
Will we get an announcement from Paul and Mary over their futures at the end of tonight's show? ![]() |

I thought Selasi was in danger, bottom 2 in technical and burnt showstopper

Same as others on here, this week was a little boring and no proper show stoppers. Andrew and Benjamina are my favourites. I love both of their slightly naughty looks to camera.

You can't really call _that_ a showstopper, deep fried pieces of batter.

I enjoyed that episode. Batter is a tricky medium.
But really disagreed with the decision. Tom should have gone. He failed on all three challenges. Kate did at keastbmake Yorkshire puds. Tome made blinnies. |

Not sure about Candice, seems to like attention, and does not get the criticism she deserves, especially not from Paul.

Rav and Selasi's puddings saved them from going home. Phew.
Tom doesn't look good next week as well |

Perhaps Jane gets away with it (for now) for glamming herself up and not looking 61. Diane got the same censure (well before ice cream gate) a few years ago, also Christine. If by 'getting lucky', people mean Val outperformed another baker (at least two bakers this time actually) then, yeah, that is kind of the aim of the game. |

Yes, Val got lucky in that she was better than few other bakers. That's good enough for anybody to stay another week.

Last night was a great episode. I love churros however why mess with tradition and use different flavours, Fry them, cover them in sugar then dunk in warm rich hot chocolate. Perfect!

Kate annoys me more, she seems to be one of those women who has to include her children or references to being a parent in every single sentence as it's all she knows.

Mind you as a kid my mom use to make a huge Yorkshire that would be left to go cold and sliced up and we would have golden syrup or ice cream on it - yummy!! Quote:
Completely agree. Not just the kids but the wedding, the swallows at the wedding, wearing swallows that were at the wedding. Yesterday banging on about hubby and Christmas dinner and marital bliss. Probably my least favourite baker ever. So glad she's gone.

It was touch and go for Tom there and I think it would have been fine if either he or Kate left last night as they were both weak but I think Kate was weak in all three and Tom's technical round saved him. She is not the worst baker there but this was just not her week and that's the nature of the competition. |

There's always a dislike of the older woman in this. Val atm. One can see the reason why they seem to disappear off our TVs in nearly all genres after a certain age.
Perhaps Jane gets away with it (for now) for glamming herself up and not looking 61. ![]() I don't think Val gets a bit of bad press/ poor review on here because she's old, it's because she's a bit... eccentric. Some people like that, some people find it irritating. Also I suspect, as she's also not a particularly strong contestant (bottom third, I'd say), people who are looking on it from the competitive angle just want her done and out of the way a bit so we get more footage of the better bakers. Absolutely agree, if she performs well enough she gets to stay. Kate has generally done quite well so far but had one bad week and she's gone. That is, to use a phrase, the way the cookie crumbles.Personally i think Tom should have gone rather than Kate - his first round was SO bad frankly they should just have walked him out of the tent at that point. And (IIRC) he didn't do all that well in the other rounds. However he can make interesting things that do work, whereas Kate is very conventional in what she does. I suspect Tom's potential may have saved him, when his results this week were actually the worst. |

Right person to go for me, mind you each week I scratch my head that Rav is still there - he has come last in the technical at least twice as far as I can recall. He has yet to make anything that I would want to eat. He may be very nice but his baking is rubbish!
It was obviously recorded a while ago but I do hope that Candice recognises that her bright lipsticks only highlight that she has a tiny pouty mouth - she would look so much better with neutrals! Really loved Mel and Sue last night - I am really going to miss them |

If Paul and Mary do a Masterclass though ... they'll probably go for that combination. Thought it was quite a tough decision on Jane, could have been Tom or Rav just as easily. Won't miss her much though as she was just a bit too twee! Congrats to Benjamina ... liking her and her lovely smile a lot. |

Cos it's Bake Off where you risk being accused of playing it safe!

Grown to love Benjamina and thought she deserved SB. Didn't think twee Kate would go this early but she really messed up. No one irritated me this week and as someone who is rubbish at batter and relies on Aunt Bessie I thought they all did well ( even if some things wee a dismal failure )
Pastry next week.......I only really like shortcrust

I've always classed yorkshies as something that's easy when you know how. Whenever home made yorkshires are brought up you always either get people saying they're stupidly easy or people who make disasters every time (I'm one of those
)I'd really like to try Selasi's yorkshires (no innuendo implied )
