Love are quids in regardless of course but I suspect there's no pile of cash big enough to compensate for what would come his way if he was the 'splitter' of the GBBO foursome. OK, I dare say he's used to social media's particular little swamp but the reputational damage would be, IMO, huge. If I was his agent (assuming he has one) I'd tell him to only take it if he planned on it being the last job in telly he ever did. Which he may well be happy with - one massive pay cheque, say three years of work, then off to do other things. He's got to remember though, the BBC have Mary Berry and most of the previous GBBO winners if they want people for hosting baking shows, they really don't need Paul at all...
EDIT : And it seems he's taken the cheque. Fair enough, it must be massive money. First thing he should do with it is buy a tin hat....

I can't believe she didn't spot that the instructions on the page she found for the Technical started at Step 5 which should have alerted her that she was missing a page.
Saying you make them weekly set her up for a fall.
I was brought up being told that Bakewell Tart doesn't have icing on it. Prefer the uniced ones. I suppose they were trying to catch the bakers out with icing onto a hot tart.

You should read Paul Hollywood's statement. He thanked Mel & Sue, mentioned the tent and the squirrel; but not one word about Mary.
Some posters have said the series had reach its zenith last year with Nadiya winning, because she is 'bankable'. Well that may be true, but surely the whole premise of this series was amateur bakers, 'ordinary' people, showing their baking skills, not a fast track to celebrity status. Maybe this ultimately altered the show, as it seems different this year and I dont know why.
I am glad Mary has left ,she is woman of great integrity and I never doubted it for a moment. i always knew Hollywood would follow the money, but hoped he wouldn't.

Couldn't have put it better.
Mary is 81 and almost certainly does not need to top up her pension pot! I suspect she also does not need the stress of continuing in a show which almost certainly will not retain the character (and the huge viewing figures) that made GBBO such a massive and unlikely success. I think she understands that GBBO is the sum of its characters and is not just a format.
Paul, on the other hand, seems to be far more money orientated (nothing wrong in that as such), but is possibly not as popular as he thinks. He failed in America and I am not sure he has the same amount of loyal fans as Mary, Mel and Sue do. C4 may have paid out a huge amount of money for a show part of which its success and charm was based on the interaction of the presenters, as well as being a whole 60 minutes - both of which have now gone. Without these things, I can see GBBO quietly fading into obscurity.

Surely that's the point. However annoying her coyness, she can actually bake, which few of the others, bar the less photogenic Jane, can.

So the viewers are already pissed off enough that the show has been sold up the river, but does Paul Hollywood have any idea how hated he will now be? He really hasn't thought this through. A remake of a show on channel 4 with someone the few viewers who will transfer over, that they despise.
That's the end of his career!
I think that after 7 or 8 years any programme formula becomes a little stale ( feeling it about SCD this year and it hasn't really started yet! ) Hopefully Love / Channel 4 can change it just enough to refresh it and with some charismatic hosts / judges it should be enough to revive it ( many people are saying it's the least engaging series this year ) Having the year break ( except for charity celeb edition ) will help them in that people's memories will begin to fade and new people ( without preconceptions) will watch.

You need to get to Bakewell and visit a few shops /factories there - all famed for their Bakewell puddings and tarts.

I like Candice - I like that she's ambitious (everything is either Star Baker level or a complete disaster, and it's because she's pushing herself) and that she likes dirty jokes and that she cares enough that she cries when things go wrong (although I also like that Selasi clearly couldn't give a flying fudge about anything that happens, so maybe I'm just a man of extremes). She could do with twisting her mouth up less but she's great casting and I'd much rather her on the show than some aggressively mimsy lightweight like Andrew or Val.
I think the standard of baking peaked in Series 5 to be honest. The Top 6 were all very strong, and even someone like Norman who went out midway was a decent baker - he just wasn't interested in all the bells and whistles and funny forrin flavours that the show wants from the contestants. Last year's final four were all strong but I was never impressed by Mat, Alvin or Paul (outside of the infamous Bread Lion).
