I agree , he is just a pompous git anyway
Yes, he was definitely the weak link in the presentation of the show.

His movement to the new show is a further disincentive for me to watch.

I tend to agree with this.
I could see someone like James Martin easily filling the Hollywood role.
I was thinking James Martin too, don't love him, but better than Hollywood and has an easy way about him and a sense of humour and he is doing a show with Mary Berry so it seems a good fit I think.

Bit extreme to hate him for doing what 99% of us would do.
You say that but only 25% of the team did do it.

Hollywood making out that the others have betrayed the show...the makers of the show have betrayed the BBC by selling their soul to Channel 4.

More likely cashing in whilst they can. The show is at its peak, or was last year in my opinion. The show might have held steady for another year after this but then I think it would have tailed off and lost monetary value. All shows have a natural life cycle. It probably made business sense to take the money not only for their own person gain (and why not it isn't a charity) but to have something in the coffers to develop new shows.

Don't know if James would do it, he's much more into cars these days and BBC wouldn't give him a Top Gear role, when he really wanted it, but maybe money would talk.

Who is this Tom bloke and what justification is there for him being in such illustrious company?

Channel4 should sign him up now.In the absence of Sue and Mel he would be a good addition.

Apologies for using a DM link - Cherish Finden is being touted as the possible Mary Berry replacement...

really? She was one of the reasons I couldn't take to Creme de la Creme (there were many others but she was one of them)

I commented in another thread that Crème de la Crème did not seem a great success and she was probably the most unpopular judge on it. But she tended to be confrontational when judging which is what Channel 4 probably want

It's only in a tabloid so could be complete xxxxxxxx

DM <holds nose>

Cherish Finden - far too cheffy. But by all means employ her. Crash and burn.

Yep, pair a harsh, confrontational judge with Hollywood- a match made in hell. Sure to drive away the most ardent Bake Off fan as the whole tone of the show changes.

Would probably end up needing very strong host(s) as well to be on the side of the contestants and then we'd be left with a slanging match show focussed on the judges and hosts rather than contestants.

And I noted that Michel Roux Jr was back on the BBC this morning hosting Saturday Kitchen Live. Both sides seemed to have reconciled their differences.

Can I put 2 and 2 together for one moment and speculate that he might make an excellent judge for this new baking show (taking the place of Hollywood)?

He is not a specialist baker but sure he can turn his hand to it or they could move away from bread.

at least we can be safe in the knowledge that that will NEVER happen. However Huff Post are saying that Geri Horner is also a strong contender...god no!

Well, they said from the start that it would be more back to basics this series, and I, for one, am glad about that. The last couple of series had such obscure and difficult challenges that it became unattainable for those of us who can only knock out the odd victoria sandwich.
I liken it to Antiques Roadshow. It used to have a mix of lower value items as well as high priced but now it just seems to be for the wealthy and I don't watch it so much now.

The casting for the shows contestants will be interesting once it's on Channel 4.

I've said in a number of related threads that members of this family would be good judges. I'd love to see his father, Albert, most of all but any of them would be good, very talented family.

If truth be told, there are few specialist bakers on TV, so they do either of the things that you suggest, or bring in a fresh face with the experience (which itself is very risky).

My money would be on MRJ at this point. Having seen his work in Michel Roux's Service, he can be kind as well as cutting, he stands no nonsense, and he has a sense of humour.

BTW, he started off doing a pastry apprenticeship, and is a bit of a baker going by this report and video interview.

Oddly enough, the last thing that I saw him in was in a series for Channel 4, so it might be rather ironic if the BBC snapped him up.

I read elsewhere later that he trained on pastries so I suspect a bit fancier than a loaf of bread! On Masterchef he was able to hit a good balance of being critical without being nasty for the sake of being nasty.
