Meanwhile, in Television Centre, "Alan's Think Tank" has been commissioned by the BBC. Now read on...

Director: OK, three two one, and...action!
Alan Partridge: Hello, and welcome to a brand new quiz show. It's Alan's Think Tank! I'm your host, Alan Partridge, and these characters over here are my Think Tank. Say Hello, Think Tankers!
Think Tank: Hello!
Alan: Sorry..hold on...should we get them to wave as well?
Director: Yeah, go on.
Alan: Right, wave as well. We'll go again from the top.
Director: OK.
Alan : Hello, and welcome to a brand new quiz show. It's Alan's Think Tank! I'm your host, Alan Partridge, and these characters over here are my Think Tank. Say Hello, Think Tankers!
Think Tank (waving): Hello!
Alan: So without further ado, let's board the Think Tank Express!
Think Tank (miming pulling a train whistle): Whoo whoo!
Alan: Ah, wait, wait a second. Roger...you didn't pull your train whistle.
Roger: Sorry, Alan.
Alan: You see it only works if you all do it. Otherwise it won't look right. OK? Right, let's go again..
Roger: The thing is...
Alan: What?
Roger: you don't think the train whistle thing's maybe a bit....silly?

Just my little bit of fun.

I wonder if they'll do a celebrity edition of Think Tank for charriddy. That really would be ultra-cringey.

It's easy enough to criticise Bill Turnbull but what really irritates me is the fact that there is somebody at the BBC who is being paid (with my money) to come up with the idea for this garbage while moronic participants are being paid (also with my money) to display their ignorance.

The format is ridiculous, the pace of the show is too slow and the questions too easy.

Must say that it's a hell of a lot speedier than Pointless, though. I really do abhor that show.

That's true, but Pointless has a gimmick in that it's not just straightforward questions and answers. If a quiz show is going to be slow it has to have a gimmick or there has to be a lot of money involved. Think Tank has neither.

It's made by an external company 12yard who make Eggheads. It's a job as in any company to come up with new things and try to sell them.

I suspect it is cheap to make, the panel aren't earning celebrity fees like Celebrity Squares or Call my Bluff.

The winner is the only one who gets the prize money and today she was able to knock out answers to a wide range of questions on subjects ranging from Tom Yum to Pep Guardiola. Her ignorance was not knowing Alex Salmond played a ghost in a Pakistani soap opera and wasn't aware of how long Konie Huq had been on Blue Peter.

It's just light-hearted afternoon quizzing, if you want quick fire questioning in military style darkness then that already is a thing on a different show.

What?! Is that a well known fact?

Blimey, it's true!

http://www.scotsman.com/news/odd/alex-salmond-stars-as-ghost-in-pakistani-tv-show-1-3689563

But there's no mention of why...? Was it just some library image the show got hold of, and Salmond's played along with it? Did Think Tank explain any of the background to why it happened?

It may be made by an external company but it's the BBC who pay the bill.

Is it too much to expect some original thinking from companies who make these programmes?

Last night I decided to watch all seven shows on iPlayer......I am now a seething mass of hatred for every one of those bloody "think tankers". All "wannabe" celebs who think they are either funny or zany and are simply not. I would gladly shove that bloke's bow up his arse and have that frigging bolton woman euthanised. Oh...and please stop the fat black guy singing!!!!!

Cleve, Ken and Peter are all on the Perfection app so I presume they've been on the show
Max was on Eggheads -

I don't get all the hatred really, they are just a bunch of people who once wanted to take part on a quiz show and now get called back by the same production company saying would you like to help us out and form a panel on our new show.

Now they get personal abuse on Twitter and also people Tweeting the show saying "I hate the think tank - horrible bunch", "they are horrible I'm off work sick and they are making me feel worse".

They are clearly only following what the have been told to do and say. To me they seem nice people and genuinely pleased when a contestant gets their question right.

Not long now! I am actually looing forward to seeing it, having revoked my earlier decision not to watch it again.

The show is certainly creating a lot of discussion, anyway.

If that's true, then that's even worse than if they are genuinely hopeless thickos.

I did not mean the question answers. They are genuine, it's not Celebrity Squares.

I meant things like make a Woo Woo sound in unison and the requirement to waffle on antidotes of how they came up with their answers, clap ferociously.

There is a photo of them answering the 100s of questions on Twitter.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CeKVu6iWEAE1Fwb.jpg:large

The production company obviously go for the questions where a lot have messed up on and chuck the questions away the Think Tankers aced because it's not a game of choosing the majority answer each time.

Interesting; I wonder if 12 Yard recruited a lot of them that way, like they did with Lisa from Revenge of the Egghead across to Eggheads.

(Although personally I'd rather have landed a place on Eggheads than Think Tank.)

It's a bit like "Are You Smarter than a 10 Year Old?" with grown-ups.

Although I think the 10 year olds were smarter.

Yep.

Although the 10 year olds are "refreshed" on the information ie. taught what they need to know for the show and it's just a test if than can recall the info from their answer packs they are expected to learn.

For Think Tank, the pick the correct answers rounds relies on using questions with a difference of opinion because a multiple choice where everyone highlights the correct answer would be dull unless it was for a one off lifeline. The skill is when to over rule the 'Think Tank' answer.

I find it a bit like a pub quiz - hear the question, get answers from others, submit the answer.

I see Fifteen To One, is back on Monday. After watching Think Tank, I'll never complain about it not being as fast as the original, ever again.

I remember watching some episodes of that show and can't recall learning the subjects in as great detail when I was that age, as the questions imply.

Toksvig is terrible. I love the original WIlliam G. editions, but I've long since given up on her shows.

The celebrity version is better, Adam Hills, who I'm not a fan of on The Last Leg, does a good job here.
