ETA: Call My Bluff is probably a better example.”

The difference with Call My Bluff is that in that show, everybody understood that one of the definitions was correct and the other two were made up. It was up to the panellists to try to convince the other side that their made up definition was correct. That was the game. There was no suggestion that the people arguing for the false definitions really thought they were true.

In this show we've got people trying to argue that an answer that they know is almost certainly wrong is the right one. And it just doesn't work because the right answer is usually obvious, unlike Call My Bluff, so they just end up looking silly. Arminel isn't stupid, I'm quite sure that when she heard Jackie give the answer "Syrup of figs - wig", she knew that was the right answer. Yet she's still got to stand there and pretend that she thinks it's syrup tart - heart, even though she knows it almost certainly isn't.

It's just not a very good show.

Here is the Tanker advert:

Are you willing to look like a tit?

This might be the show for you.

We're looking for a bunch of 'tankers' to act like they know everything.

Essential:
An alleged personality.

Desirable:
Hair. Or shirts. Or something.

Not important:
Knowledge.

Do you think you have something or a word? Apply until.

I'd be astonished if this heap of embarrassment (trying not to be rude) gets a second series.

I just watched a full episode this morning and What the blooming heck. The contestants made to look stupid but that was proved wrong by some of the answer they gave.

How rude of the woman contestant saying she picked the wrong tanker .. which for me means I picked a thicko

What was you thinking Bill

God! No wonder, none of them got the correct answer to today's final question. Who was the first British female solo artist, to have 5 number one UK singles? All those talented legends mentioned were wrong and the correct answer? Cheryl Fernandez-Versini ffs.

Well, I knew the answer right away. I'm a massive Girls Aloud and Cheryl fan. I could have listed them all if I'd been on the show. Previous to her the record was held by Geri Halliwell with four. I'm not really surprised none of them knew it though. Most of them went for people from way back.

Cleve, the "music man", didn't know that Rod Stewart was the lead singer of The Faces? I wouldn't have regarded that as a difficult question for somebody who's supposed to have music knowledge. He seems to regularly struggle with the music questions.

Another thing about this show that gets me is the way the contestants pick who to ask them a question. I don't think they put a lot of thought into it. Now we know that the Think Tanker who asks the question got it right in the test they did beforehand.. And we also know that Arminel and Max are the two most "academic" style Think Tankers. So it strikes me that if you pick one of them to ask you a question, it's much more likely to be an academic subject question, because they got it right, and I suspect most of the other Tankers didn't. And so it proved today. Max asked a question on philosophy and Arminel's was on art. I knew Rene Descartes for the philosophy one, and would have guessed Albrecht Durer for the art one. Neither of the contestants got them right.

But if you're not great on those sort of subjects, you should be steering well clear of Arminel and Max. But the contestants seem to pick them all the time, and then struggle with the question.

Admittedly the contestants are probably seeing the Think Tank for the first time, so won't have as much information as we have, but it's pretty obvious right away that Arminel and Max are bookish types.

All those legendary singers, and I picked Geri Halliwell.

Got the Rod Stewart one easily but jeez, for a music expert, he's not that great.

His music knowledge really isn't that great. I don't consider myself a music expert and I regularly know the answer to questions on music that he doesn't.

I bet he doesn't know much about girlbands either. I bet he couldn't name all of Girls Aloud. Or The Saturdays..

At least the contestant in the middle refused to join in with the "act like an arse " when your name is called out.

Should they ever do a celebrity version I dread to think what Louis Spence would get up to ......

I'd disagree about picking a tanker thinking you know the subject they'll ask a question about.

From the handful of shows I've watched it's been kind of random.

Such as the older woman with the funny name asking what show does the catchphrase Bazinga come from?

in yesterdays episode Tristan got two questions right - easiest questions ever mind you but he got 2 right. i nearly had a heart attack.
in a previous episode he got a modelling question and a sports question wrong even though hes done a bit of modelling and is into his sports well apparently but it seems he only knows ice hockey.

Today's "Impossible" question was "Paisley Park recording studio was founded by which man, born in 1958?"

I can't believe not one of them knew that was Prince, although "music man" Cleve wasn't on the panel today, so I don't know if he'd have known it. Bill always says "none of our Think Tank got this", I don't know if he means all of them or just the ones that are on that day.

Peter put Jay-Z. Born in 1958?
Tristan put Donald Trump.

Only one more week of this to go, folks.

Will it return? We shall see.

Particularly as it's the name of one of his songs...

I didn't notice that. Elvis born in 1958?

Hound Dog and Heartbreak Hotel were hits in 1956. Not to mention he'd have died when he was only nineteen.

A quick check on the IPlayer reveals it was Diane who gave us that particular gem.

You note the word 'singer' was not in the question. Had they put 'mime' it would have been an easy answer.

Argh you're right! I thought it was a new series. I missed most of them anyway the first time around.

See above. Round about one o'clock weekdays BBC2 (was earlier on Friday).

Don't know why.

Wish Think Tank was on today. It's better than most of the usual Saturday rubbish.
