Think it was Diane last week who tried to persuade the contestant that Daley Thompson was Britain's greatest Olympic athlete with 6 golds and 1 silver. She argued that he had lots of medals "because he does lots of events"

That'll be because he a decathlete and to win 7 medals would have had to have competed in 7 Olympic Games over 28 years pmsl......

I also knew the "Question Impossible" about Mackems, but then I should ha ha.....(as did the knowledgeable contestant)

Music "expert" Cleve gets a music one wrong again. And contestant changes from right answer to his wrong one.

Nah, he knew full well what it was, he was fed a wrong answer to make himself look stupid in the process, the same reason Peter and Diane are fed right answers, they're as thick as four short planks.

London Calling is one of The Clash's most famous songs. And he thought it was The Jam? I wonder what his strike rate on music questions actually is. That's at least four I've seen him get wrong in the head to head, all of which I knew. I can't recall seeing him get a single music question right that I didn't know the answer to as well - and I wouldn't consider myself to have specialist music knowledge. To be fair, it's not him that claims to be the expert - it's Bill that says Cleve is "our music man". But his music knowledge just isn't very good.

Abi also played a blinder in the head to head, coming up with the answer Queen Victoria for the monarch that had Mary Queen of Scots executed. The contestant fortunately chose not to take her advice and went for the correct answer of Elizabeth I.

Mary Queen of Scots was executed in 1587.

Victoria died in 1901.

Pedant alert - not quite, only 24 years. You can compete in seven Olympics over 24 years, because there's one at each end. You can compete in two Olympics over four years.

But it would still be some achievement.

Trivia: the record number of Olympic games competed at by one individual is Canadian Ian Millar who has competed in the equestrian events at ten games.

The record for the athletics events is the sprinter Merlene Ottey with seven.

The lady who won today did a silly dance as her "intro move" and showed no sign of embarrassment, and went on to win. Maybe the shows producers give you an easier ride if you play up to the cameras.

There seem to be three basic "intro moves" that they do:

1) The ones that really enter into the spirit of it and do a silly dance or mime or hand signal or something;
2) The ones who are a bit half hearted about it and do a salute. Not very original, but you don't look too silly;
3) The ones who don't do anything and just stand there awkwardly smiling.

I'm not sure if there's any correlation between "intro move silliness" and winning though.

There's a good music question in there.

Which famous rock song includes the lyrics, "He stands like a statue, becomes part of the machine"?

I wonder if Cleve would know it.

Wow. Today's 'question impossible' was one of the most common quiz questions ever. I don't blame the contestant for not getting it but the Tankers?!

Spoiler
Better tell Cleve it's Pinball Wizard. By The Who. Not The Jam

Well, not having seen it today, I don't know what the question was. But remember that the Think Tank are not there because they have any specialist quiz knowledge. They were chosen from people who applied to be on the show as contestants. So they're effectively from the same pool of people as the contestants. It's fairly obvious from watching it over the last few weeks that with the exception of one or two of them, their general knowledge is pretty average. That was clearly the whole idea of the show, to get ordinary people on the Think Tank, not quizzers, because, they thought, for whatever reason, that it would make a good show.

In fairness to the Tankers, I didn't get that one either (think I've only seen it come up once before so not that common imo I thought it would be something like the Sex Pistols). It's one of those that unless you know for definite, you wouldn't guess the answer - compare that to the Victoria Pendleton question impossible from last week!

I didn't get the Prince question impossible from last week - never knew he had a song called Paisley Park so couldn't have worked it out from that (my parents didn't get it either). However, the Mackem one I got straight away (I tried that one on my parents too; my mom didn't get it but my dad did eventually).

Considering what we've been saying about the Tankers not knowing much on their own 'specialisms' and basic general knowledge; you honestly expected them to have got that particular question right?

On another note though - Tristan got a question right! (It was tailor-made for him but still......)

EDIT: @Sarahsaurus, I can't remember the exact wording of the question but it was essentially this:

Spoiler
When MTV first started broadcasting in 1981, the first song that they played was by which band?

with the answer being this:

Spoiler
The Buggles - 'Video Killed the Radio Star' (I wouldn't have got this in a million years, but even I would have known that it wasn't Take That as suggested by a couple of the Tankers)

It was a good show today, and I enjoyed it.

Only three more to go, though. Will it return?!

With regard to the Impossible Question (What was the first song played on MTV), I knew it right away. As somebody said above, it's a standard pub quiz question that any decent quizzer should know, just as the first song played on MTV Europe was Money For Nothing by Dire Straits (because it's got the line "I want my MTV" in it). But you have to know it. It's not guessable. The Buggles were essentially one hit wonders.

But as I said above, the Think Tank aren't quizzers, so it wasn't a surprise to me that none of them knew it.

Other standard "first" quiz questions: first commercial on ITV? Gibbs SR toothpaste.
First record played on Radio1? Flowers in the Rain by The Move.

Quizzers know these sort of things, but the general public won't.

Here's another "first" quiz question that almost nobody, even top quizzers, would get.

What was the first act to have their first four singles go straight in at No1 in the UK charts?

You'll get the usual answers - The Beatles, Rolling Stones, ABBA, Take That, Spice Girls, Westlife (who were originally going to be called Westside).

The answer is actually...B*Witched. "What are ye like?"

Well if it gets a second series and I think most quizzes should (to bed in etc.), they should get quizzers with more knowledge in the tank. Just because they can think of an answer, which doesn't even have to be vaguely near correct, is ridiculous. The final two rounds need a rethink, and if they had better quizzers there could be more jeopardy involved in disagreeing with the tanker.

I would probably only keep Arminel and Max (who I didn't like to begin with but he's really grown on me).

If they had a panel of quiz geniuses, won't it be so boring, -

the round where they have to find the correct answer out of 8, all they have to do is go with the majority every time,

the round where they have to discuss the answer with the think tanker they won't have to use their brain they just get the correct answer given to them every time.

Then you have the problem that other shows have made quiz players into smug villains that don't want you to win.

I didn't say geniuses, just better than the current bunch.

The fact you have to pick a tanker in round 3 even if you know the answer is just stupid and annoying.

Checking with someone is always a good idea, even the Eggheads confer in the last round and don't just shout out the minute they think they know it.
On Think Tank there was that guy who said with confidence The Masters Golf was held in the US state of "Augusta" , if he had a tanker left they would have told him why he shouldn't say that.

I was thinking of some tweaks for the show.
How about in round 2 the contestant can answer a question for £200 or ask a Tanker for help for £100.

Also, have it so that the Tankers win the other £100 then at the end of the week the Taker with the biggest pot gets to keep it.”

I like the Idea of the contestant getting less if they use a tanker - or perhaps an extra £50 if the choose Tristan

Not sure about the tanker of the week getting any money as I assume they are getting paid to sit on the panel?

Tristan was at his best today which was very disappointing - he was not the Tristan i know and love

Would they really? Which Tanker would've noticed the obvious mistake? Not many of them I'm sure.

Checking with someone knowledgable is good and having a kind of debate. However, checking with someone who has no idea when you're sure of the answer is absolutely pointless and a waste of a Tanker who you could try and hope to get a useful answer out of later.
