Has anyone noticed that towards the close of each working day (on HK Live), especially so in Gary Rhode's kitchen, at least two to three men dressed as chefs always walk into the kitchen from thin air to have a chat with Gary and his sous-chef?

Are these men working behind the scenes and doing some cooking? I thought only the contestants were directly involved in all the cooking. I wonder what their roles are.

For the first time, I saw another chef in JC's kitchen talking to Kellie and Gary. He has a french accent.

I guess the tasks on hand are too daunting for just the contestants alone to handle and they have some behind-the-scenes help.

You must be right - Gary's slowed down, not speeded up, so where's the food coming from ?

Maybe they don't do the main work but perhaps do stuff like make sure there are enough pre-prepared sauces and cut up chunks of meat. So it looks like each chef has a team of professional chefs on hand to aid in each day's feeding of celebrity-free-loaders who are in desperate need of media exposure to reinstate their flailing status... *lol*

There is a whole multitude of people involved in a kitchen brigade

The kitchen would not function if if were just chefs - someone has to do the washing up and scraping dishes.

They look like chefs because they wear similar protective clothing, but they have nothing to do with the actual prep and cooking.

I think you're correct RadioMaxMusic.

They appear to be the kitchen hands that you sometimes catch working at the extreme rear of the kitchen washing pot & pans.

The way they approach Gary Rhodes, it appears they know him quite well, so I guess they are some employees from one of Gary's Kitchens.

JC also has a similar team helping him.

That's because they've finished the pots, once the rest of them leave the kitchen they clean all the surfaces down. I've seen them a few times.

The guys we are talking about do NOT, repeat NOT, wash pots up or wipe surfaces - they appear at the end of the LIVE coverage to talk to the chefs .....

..... do pot-washers and surface scrubbers normally share hugs and jokes with chefs ?

*handbags away ladies*

From the beginning of this series, there has always been some kitchen hands that work at the rear of the kitchen - they are often seen when a camera follows someone out of the rear door of the kitchen and into the corridor when they are going to the storeroom or smoking area. Their job appears to be to clean the pots & pans, and there is clearly a sink where they work. These kitchen staff also appear to help clean down the kitchen surfaces after the kitchen closes. (I must admit, I do not remember seeing these type of people in Series 1).

Whether these people are the same ones as 3-4 that were spotted last night talking to Gary Rhodes, I cannot be certain. I must say the 3-4 that appeared last night looked more like butchers than chefs However, when they were talking with him, the staff at the rear had disappeared. Coincidence?

Mind you, so had Terry & Sam who had left to go upstairs (no I don't mean it like that! )

The work had clearly finished in the Kitchen for that night.

As I mentioned earlier, they may be staff from one of Gary Rhodes Kitchens/Restaurants, hence their familiarity with him.

Obviously, you do not watch closely .....

There have been several occasions when the pot-washers (wearing aprons) and the "others" (not wearing aprons) have been in the kitchen together - they cannot be confused and they do not talk to each other ......

Please stay on topic - clearly all the posters in this thread (apart from possibly you) are interested.

Do you have anything of value to add to this discussion? Do you know who these people are? If you don't care, please don't bother responding

Wasn't at least one of the 3-4 people (does anyone remember the exact number?) talking to Gary Rhodes last night not wearing a vertically striped apron?

I admit other staff without aprons have also appeared to help clean the kitchen, especially the 'men in black' who appeared when Kellie was otherwise alone.

As for not talking to anyone, I've only seen JC do this
Other than the Chefs and contestants, no one is mic'd up in the kitchen so it is difficult to hear them speak - if they are too close to a mic, then their words are often censored.

It's okay I'm not bothered.

I'd say that the background staff in each kitchen are known to JC and GR. One of the guys on JC's team is french and chats to Kellie and Gary, they are part of the team at the end of the day, without them the kitchen would not function.

There is nothing odd or underhand going on in the kitchen as far as I'm concerned. Now the scoring by the diners, that's another story.

Not sure if this has already been said on here, but I would think the people you see are helping with the cooking. Theyve been there since the show started.

Gordon Ramsey had helpers but they were more in the foreground & you got to see them more.

General kitchen hands/pot washers/prep chefs.

Any or all of the above, part of the kitchen team.
