My timehop has highlighted to me I of this today and I remember how sad it was even though it was totally inevitable at the time.

I adored the period between 2003-2008 where we got girls aloud and sugababes albums every year, then I got to watch the girls aloud tour every year the following summer

I don't think little mix and the Saturdays cut it in the same way and I can still listen to full ga albums to this day as they didn't contain much filler

Anyone else miss them ?

Girls Aloud are certainly much better than any of Little Mix, Sugababes or The Saturdays. They recorded some pretty damn catchy songs.

Also really think Nicola Roberts is one of the most underrated "girl group" members of all time.

Would go see them if they happened to reunite again, but I doubt that'll happen any time soon.

Yeh I can't see it happening from all accounts the reunion was ok for the short period of time but the divide was more visible.

It's a shame as there new tracks on 10 showed they still had it in them to have produced another great album

Not better then sugababes! Sugababes had better talent and songs.

Honestly can't name a Sugababes song other than "Push the Button"

To be fair, I still have a deep burning hatred for both Girls Aloud and Sugababes for what they did to "Walk this Way" by Aerosmith (and Run-DMC, depending on which version)

I can't agree they were better than Sugababes, they were pretty much on the same level IMO. Both released some excellent pop songs and I think Sugababes probably released the slightly better album tracks.

They still had a place, loved the new songs on Ten but it's obvious the Cheryl/Nadine 'feud' had well and truly divided the group and for that reason alone they couldn't go on.

They did have some cracking pop songs. Biology and Promise are two of my favourites.

I always remember hearing 'Sound of the Underground' for the very first time back when they'd won the TV show and knowing straight away it would get to number one.

I was just too skint at the time to back it at the bookies

Sugababes had 6 number 1s. Nadine was the only talented one

A lot of Girls Aloud's success was down to Xenomania giving them some excellent pop songs. There was definitely some talent in the group though (Nadine - vocals and Nicola - songwriting). It's a shame their last single was the bland Beautiful Because You Love Me. The only negative of Girls Aloud is it unleashed Cheryl Tweedy on the UK.

Do you think any lineup without Nadine could work? Assuming they still had Xenomania, could the other girls carry the vocals?

Nothing against Nadine from me but she seemed to be the one the main other three pushed out and Sarah was caught in the middle. She's the only one I can see leaving and them still consenting to record as a four piece.

I don't think it would work Nadine seemed to be the only one who wanted to carry on when they split so it would be obvious that they had basically forced her out which would probably turn opinion against them it's not exactly like cheryl has retained her nations sweetheart tag is it.

Also one would also end up feeling sorry for Sarah in that scenario as the other 3 are so close Sarah would then become the new Nadine

They had effectively split up in 2009, the greatest hits album/tour was strictly for the money.

The only reason I remember this is because My Chemical Romance split up on the very same day.

Completely different kind of groups, stupid to compare.

GA brought out some unique pop music thanks to Xenomania and the girls were brilliant on tour.

Vocally, I really don't think they would be strong enough, unless Nicola took Nadine's position as lead singer.

I actually strongly believe that Girls Aloud in a way helped alter the British music industry in the 00's and kept core pop music going through a time when rock and indie music dominated.

I mean, what an achievement for the likes of NME and The Guardian naming 'Biology' as one of the best pop tracks of the year/decade - for a GIRLBAND. At the time it was unheard of.

I agree. All they had talent they were also very much in the right place at the right time. The 2000s was the age of indie and so they had very little competition, especially from fellow Brits. If they were kicking off now they'd have the likes of The Saturdays (if they're still together), Little Mix, Fifth Harmony etc to compete with, not to mention all the individual female pop stars.

They were good but I think having Cheryl in them kind of tarnishes the memory now as she is universally regarded as talentless these days.

With you with Little Mix, however Sugababes at their best I beg to differ their output could drift into R&B. The Saturdays would be a closer call, GA shading it on longevity.
