Just because someone disagrees that a suicidal woman phoning in a late night, lighted hearted show on national radio station makes good radio you get labelled as being a troll! I'm sorry to have a different opinion to some but I feel it's exploitive. I'm going back to Ian Collins.

Congratulations, you got a mention on the show last night.
I think in a 3 hour show, no matter how much you appreciate those doing it, you cannot possibly like 100% of the output and there will be ebbs and flows. Last night's show was one I didn't listen to, so I never heard what you mention. Maybe you or anyone could point me to the rough time I got a namecheck so I can listen again. I'm no stranger to getting my radio forum DS comments acknowledged. You may have noticed I began the biggest individual radio show thread on DS for Radio 2's Pick Of The Pops, and Tony has replied a few times to pieces on that on twitter. Two listenable people that have something in common recently, both getting unjustly fired from the BBC, who seem to prefer the homogenous generic safe type of presenter nowadays. |

OK, but why did you say that while picking out the worst part of my post in response?
http://cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/a...13_2200_LA.mp3 (at 27:21) and again http://cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/a...13_2230_LA.mp3 (at 19:08) Admittedly, not quite a namecheck, but obviously referring to your post. |

I wonder if I would have even noticed had I been listening. Nothing wrong with a little bit of self indulgence as long as its kept in check. When I first looked the show up on periscope I suddenly realised that the laptop nearest the camera was what I presumed to be his own personal one and that was the screen he spent most of the time gazing at, for websites and items callers were mentioning. That's the great thing nowadays, callers can't pull a fast one so easily as you can check out stuff they say in seconds. Not sure about this modern obsession with the twits (yes, not tweets) on twitter though. I'm pleased he's getting off on the right foot with Nigel and not over indulging him with tunes 5 nights a week. Give Nigel an inch and he tries for the full yard. Sounds better in imperial than saying give him a centimetre and he'll take the full metre! He needs to try and get him to do a Status Quo tune. Previously with Mike Graham on TalkSport he tried for ages to get him to do one from them and Nigel kept promising and never did. Now's the chance. ![]() I have the time to have a decent listen tonight so will do so. Funny he has Tommy James the 60's singer on because I was only saying about two weeks ago to my own mum if she knew what the title "Mony Mony" meant from his No1 single. http://www.songsitblog.com/songs:wha...mony-mony-mean Now I just want to know what a Shondell is too! |

Iain is very good with the way he handles Emmas calls. He is genuinely caring and understanding. I do find it uncomfortable however listening to someone who is so vulnerable they have to phone a radio station for help / comfort.
People in pain will gravitate towards someone who shows understanding and is genuinely patient and generous with their time which Iain obviously has been with Emma. What Emma revealed last night, what she has been through is just so shocking and so horrifying, my heart goes out to her. A lot of people who are lonely and don't have the right support in their lives use radio as companionship so Emma may view broadcasters like Ian as a friendly trustworthy ear. I know it can be uncomfortable listening for some but if Emma derived comfort from Iain's words then it's worth it. I admire Iain for taking Emma's calls cos he doesn't have to. He knows that some people will lambast him and accuse him of being exploitative but any decent person can tell that he cares more about her well-being than any flack he'll get for it. I think he's acted on instinct and his instinct has been right - he should be commended for his actions cos it must be enormously difficult to know what to say and how to say it - it's such a minefield at any time but even more so live on air. I'm hoping that her calls to Iain will lead to Emma finally getting the help she so desperately needs and if that is the case it trumps any listeners' buzzkill. Iain speaks to Emma with empathy and kindness and that can never be wrong. |

Surely a measure of 'self indulgence' is a broadcaster's prerogative.
It should be a given. If I had my own radio show, I'd conduct interviews with people I admired, I'd chat about things that interested and amused me and I'd play music I liked - there would be Led Zeppelin.

![]() Evening Lors ![]() Missed most of last nights show ! ![]() ![]() You missed an amusing exchange between Barry (from Watford) and Jonathan from Swansea (sometimes, he says) Barry said Jonathan sounded like James Harries who is now Lauren Harries and he actually does. ![]() Jonathan then said that so many men were becoming women these days that he couldn't keep up. I liked the John Denver song some caller played down the phone, that made me laugh but the night was dominated for me by Emma's call - she's in a bad way and it's so sad.

That advert which still says "this Easter" is now seriously annoying me!
Iain needs a sound effect alert from his laptop for his over self indulgent moments. ![]() Won Mastermind? You only have one show and three opponents! Real winners had to go through how many rounds in ye olden days? They give a trophy to a person on every single Zeleb show of that! https://youtu.be/xROg1_QBt0k Specialist subject The Monkees. 26 points on the celeb version isn't bad actually. It's dumbed down even more these past few years and getting 20 is rare lately. Googling facts doesn't necessarily make them become true by the way.

Someone should ring in and sing the deep voiced Wandrin' Star by Lee Marvin!
That kept the Beatles Let It Be off the No1 spot.

Someone said it was like Avengers Assemble - that was funny. ![]() I might have to give the Jon Holmes podcast a listen on the back of this. I wish someone would clip and post some of the awkward handovers from JHB to Jon that they mentioned - I don't get to hear any daytime radio. |

A couple of days ago I listened to the podcast of Radio 4's The Now Show from 25th March in which Jon Holmes had a part. I know nothing about the guy though. What exactly is he meant to be primarily?

Only realised Dave and Jon popped in as I finished the show on the way into work. As stated, Iain quit 11OCS 5 days before the start of the series, so no hate I guess. I am quite surprised they like each other. They're both holding the station together at the moment. Having said that, I'm becoming more and more impressed with Delaney too. The handovers with Holmes are fantastic too. |

Last night's Periscope is on YouTube, so you can get to hear the off-air bits between Iain and Jon when commercials are playing

Just listened back to Iain Lee/Jon Holmes, as expected from what they've both said on their shows, they were complimenting each other's shows.
The good thing about them is they seem to share a similar sense of humour but what they do on their shows is very different. |
