On the headphones thing, it's far from unusual for presenters to bring their own. The ones that live in the studio for communal use are often knackered and/or have limiters to prevent hearing damage, which are fine off your hearing isn't already damaged.

I think most people reading this would have been surprised that the new caller show was so busy. There was no need for Iain to fill in between calls, even during straight-to-air.

On straight-to-air we had a couple of very notable callers. Annabel "from the Woodford", the legendary "Cars and Kids" correspondent sounded so grown-up and is now 22 studying journalism. Obviously hardly a first time caller (as she phoned almost every day for a year!) but still great to hear her again. The last time she called was probably on 26 July 2009 as a 16 year old when he was on Absolute as I posted that at the time

“Pretty good show last night, and it was great to hear Annabel from the Woodford again (who is now nearly 16).”

Later on we had the legend of Play Talk, Stuart Heron.

I don't know much about this kind of thing but those numbers seem quite large to me

If he's getting that much already I would be amazed. Iain used to regularly quote RAJAR figures when he was on LBC. When he started on drivetime in October 2005 he inherited 20,000 from Daisy Sampson and grew that to over 60,000 by the time he left the slot in December 2006. Of course that was in London and surrounding area only.

Did Iain Lee say that Kate Bush is rubbish?

I love Kate Bush with infinite passion.

Respect to Kath and James for loving her too.

He also agreed that Pacman was boring.

A litany of heinous crimes occurring in last nights show.

An outrage! He should be taken away and left tied up "out on the wiley, windy moors..."

Hi Sleeps.

I don't think it's women only callers tonight - I think he said he might try it some night next week.

I must say I'm thoroughly shocked about Prince.

When I was at school in the 80's, I had the requisite huge hair.
I dyed mine purple and when I walked past the boys lining the corridor at break/lunch time, they would sing "Purple Rain" at me.

Wasn't the In-Betweeners guy James just a touch boring on Wednesday night. I mean, not only did Iain not need to use the dump button on him but he didn't even bring a dirty magazine in with him and start having a sly jerk off under the desk for us to see on periscope!

Everything he said about Shakespeare from schooldays I agreed with entirely.

Iain has posted this on Facebook today:

Quote:
“Hate I do this here but. I want to stop this before it escalates.

To the person setting up multiple Twitter accounts attacking me, my team and the show. I know who you are. The police have been informed. So have management. I don't want to name you in public but if the abuse continues, I will.

I wish you peace, happiness and luck.
Iain”

This must happen to lots of radio presenters, but Iain reacts to it so some people will want to see if they can get Iain Lee to react to their trolling. That one he had on from the West Midlands seems to be unpleasant but Iain has allowed him to be part of the club. He even let him stay in the venue where he was shouting and being disruptive while Iain was performing. This is where the softly softly approach gets you unfortunately.

I wonder how he will react to the public shaming he got last night?

Iain, his family and Eloise suffered from a particularly abusive listener at Absolute which led to a custodial sentence, which was reported in national newspapers.

Some people have been disappointed by the lack of conflict but given the show is only a few weeks old there has already been a fair share of controversy.

Much of the conflict so far has been people trolling on Twitter or the chat feature of Periscope. It doesn't seem to be fun conflict which aims to make the show better.

Surely people don't want to hear more of the sort of conflict Iain has described on Facebook.

Why would someone like Iain Lee attract such venomous and persistent individuals targeting him just because of a mere fluffy little talk radio show? He's a perfectly decent, likeable and regular enough chap 99% of the time from my perspective. What aspect is there to hate so much? Unless it's more personal from people he's worked with in the past rather than a foolish lone trolling twerp with nothing better to do. I'm not a fan of bringing the police into matters as trivial as dim-witted tweets by losers on the internet and always think ignoring even strong provocation is the best way, but I've no idea what has been said.

It seems to me that his show so far has received a rather decent reception on these threads. I really do think that twitter should be left to the twits! Let's face it, almost everything written on twitter is of no interest to anyone very much and is just a pile of self indulgent piffle written by people with a sense of over self importance.

Now then, what do I choose tonight? Iain Lee or Nick Abbot? Tricky.

I'm not familiar with the live show incident Iain described. He does tend to indulge trolls rather too often (which is at all in my opinion).

The thing is, Iain has said that if it wasn't for his line of work then he would be off twitter altogether. However it seems to me that given his recent background of depression, plus his apparent inability to resist getting bogged down in pointless acrimonious bickering with ***** who have no better way to spend their time, he might be well advised to put his emotional wellbeing first and just get off it. Twitter is a poisonous cess pit if you don't have a thick skin.

I wholeheartedly agree. At first glance you do ask yourself why would anyone have cause to go after someone like him - but I do think that it isn't his opinions that make him a target but just the fact that he responds to these losers. He plays the game, a game that someone who tries to engage in earnest debate in an attempt to come to an agreeable conclusion just can't win. If I could wave a magic wand I would, in a heartbeat, make twitter disappear because I think that 99% of us in our normal lives would be better off without it.
