That reminds me, where does that rhythmic chant come from? Iain used to play it on Absolute. Possibly before then as well. It's double or triple tracked and is a man saying that thing which ends "...mickey tora". I remember Barry used to try to say it. Ahh I love Barry; he talks exactly like my Granny used to, especially with the vague "you know" every so often.

eta: ah right, of course that reminds me of it. It is it! So it's a chant of some town in NZ? Where's Mickey Tora got to at the end of it?
They added about an extra third of Maori words to the end of it, ending in 'mickey tora'.

ps. I can say it.

Glad Iain is considering not doing Film Ring. I don't personally have time to watch the movies with work so I end up just skipping those days completely. Maybe he can bring back straight to air?

Kind of my thoughts too I don't have the inclination to watch the films and the show seemed to be akin to being you with a load of people talking about a film you' haven't seem

Fortunately it being a Monday I had "I'm Sorry I haven't a clue" to listen to

I know what you mean, kinda feels like homework but when you've been at work all day you don't really feel like watching somethings because there's gonna be a discussion about it late at night not forgetting you've got to be up early for work the next day.

I think last night's was probably the first show where Kath was in the studio for the whole show, apart from the one with Jake Yapp. That is now possible because the podcast no longer needs to be done during the show.

Jonathan and Iain had an argument about Sulu in Star Trek being gay. Jonathan kept calling himself a misanthrope. Vinny was the last caller.

Iain and Kath have removed themselves from the talkRADIO Listeners' Facebook group.

My listening hours to Iain's show has decreased since he ended straight-to-air calls after midnight, I just haven't enjoyed it as much. I know much of it was complete nonsense but it was funny I genuinely think the show has lost something because what really made straight-to-air funny was Lee's brilliant quick-fire wit dealing with it and I really miss it.

When he brings it back [which I strongly tip he will do] I will resume full-time listening again.

I think Jonathan takes it as a badge of honour when Iain calls him racist, homophobic, misogynistic etc.

I think straight to Air will be back however not every night, i used to like what he did at Absolute where he every now and then would just say to Elouise right come in i will take the calls straight to air for the last hour or last half hour.

I enjoyed the straight to air bits however he seems to get a lot more calls in that last hour now than he ever did with straight to air.

I'm the opposite, I'm usually driving home for much of the 12pm-1pm slot and I much enjoy "proper" callers than much of the straight-to-air. Sometimes straight-to-air seems to largely comprise people just playing TV theme tunes down the phone and Iain having to spend lots of time talking to fill the lack of calls

How about Straight-to-Air once or twice a week and give people a chance to do their best rather than spread it across 5 hours

I agree. Each to their own, and as ever, the beauty of Iain's show is its variety. But for me, straight to air usually has me switching stations.

Iain announced that he would not interact with people on Twitter, for the sake of his own mental health.

Russ' extreme need for validation came to a head this evening when Russ queried if Iain had blocked him on Facebook. The remainder of the call was Iain trying to explain to Russ that he takes things far too seriously. When it sounded like the call might resume normally, Russ then said that there was no point continuing as Iain had killed the mood. That was seriously uncomfortable listening. Russ didn't get around to making his point and at the end of the call, Iain remarked that it was a good job they had taken themselves off Facebook because of what would surely be on there.

I'm starting to get fed up of Russ' calls, as ive said before he seems to take the show too seriously. I think Iain got it spot on in that hes one of those people that like to have an opinion but don't like others disagreeing with him. He used to be a good caller but for the last couple of weeks his calls have just been irritating.

Good to hear Jonathan on the show again, i know his twitter feed is vile but there's something about his calls. Everytime he calls i question myself and think is he real ?

He's completely the opposite of Russ. Iain calls him all the names under the sun and he doesn't seem to care.

Wasn't Russ a long time caller on talkSPORT, and Talk Radio before that? He said he used to be a big fan of Ian Collins, so did Russ phone him up? If so, Did Russ have such issues then? Collins can be quite brutal.

I remember him calling Mike Mendoza quite a lot in the small hours, I'm sure it was in his break time during his shift as a security person.

His calls are entertaining maybe because there's a lot of calls always agreeing with Iain on everything. And it's obvious Iain enjoys the stimulation of the banter.

So Russ managed to call him without getting upset?

I've now listened up to about 12.30 last night and things continued on Twitter. Iain gave Russ periodic reassurances on air that things are groovy and Russ can call/not call, listen/not listen as he pleases. Iain got so frustrated that he suggested he might have tonight off.

From memory he was just chewing the fat with Mike, those over night shows seem to have more time for callers obviously because there's more time to fill.

Russ has just announced his departure from the talkRADIO Listeners' Facebook group, plugging his own Facebook group on the way out.

I just watched Iain's reaction during the commercial break after the call with Russ on Periscope. Iain's usually pretty sweary off mic anyway but I don't think I've seen him use so many expletives in such a short amount of time.

I also just watched the bits in the break, didn't realise how serious he was when he said he couldn't do the job for much longer. He seemed to be having a tough time last night but that comment about not being able to do this for much longer seemed like something he had been thinking about for a good while.

Hopefully its just a down patch as i said earlier in the thread i thought what Iain did was totally fair, he asked a question and he got a answer.

How come the phone system is not on a fader?

I consider myself a big fan of Iain's work but have not been listening very often for a number of reasons. Some good calls this evening though including the girl who expressed concerns about possible insect incursions into her rectum during the night as a result of sleeping naked.

It's broken .... again. It must be driving the presenters mad with all the technical problems, especially for the likes of Jon Holmes who have come from Global who have excellent technical standards.
