I avoid reading DS until after I have listened to the show to avoid spoilers. I have normally finished listening to the show by 8 or 9 in the morning, but today I didn't finish listening until an hour ago. I obviously missed some drama.
Classic Jonathan last night. He confesses that he has never seen the original 80s Ghostbusters, at least from start to finish. He had previously complained that the new Ghostbusters ruins his childhood memory, simply because it stars women. Iain then asks if Jonathan had seen the new Ghostbusters, obviously he hadn't. Iain even offers to buy pay for his ticket but he said it would take a huge amount of money.
Obviously the main controversy was the argument between Iain and Kath about whether it was appropriate to comment on whether Kate or Pippa Middleton is more attractive. It was uncomfortable (i.e. good) listening, and I was especially taken aback when he called her a dick. At the end of the argument, Iain asked if Kath wanted to do the podcast and she went off, not to be heard again for the rest of the show. I watched it on Periscope and I saw the smiling. I doubt there is permanent (or even temporary) damage done. However, some of the people commenting on Periscope thought it had gone too far.
The lack of women phoning up came up again last night. Is the show too blokey? That question was posed regularly on the LBC and Absolute shows. But then two of the main woman callers came up soon after. Penny gave her excuse that some women are busy because it is the end of the school year. Hannah chewed the fat about the hot weather.
Just before midnight, Iain turned off the Periscope saying "It is going to be a long last hour of the show, guys. You don't need to see a man dying." It was the first full hour in a long while without Kath in the studio, but she would have to have gone away in any case because there was the bonus podcast to be done. Callers were scarce in the last hour and so Iain probably would have preferred Kath to be there but the geeky chat about old audio technology appealed to me.
