Hope that Russell's radio show went well today. What a call that was last night.

He called in at the start of last night's show and it sounded like it went well.

Best ofs? Why isn't there a stand-in presenter?

Best ofs are cheaper. He's got a couple more days off on 30 August and 9 September so he may actually have a proper stand in then.

True, but I don't think it's a great start for a new radio station to do that on in a flagship slot. Other slots have had stand-ins, no problem. I think that's disappointing from talkRADIO.

They're going to do a whole week of best ofs?! That sounds like a disaster!

I'm going to guess that Jake Yapp was going to be Iain's stand in on paper however he is up in Edinburgh so can't do this week. I reckon in the future it will be Jake.

He mentioned that a big name in speech based radio was going to be his stand-in which would rule out Yapp, so that might have been referring to his days off on 30 August and 9 September, unless that "big name" is himself! He also kept mentioning Whale, which led some people to take that as a hint that it would be him, but he might still be in the Big Brother house next week. But it might be him on 30 August and 9 September.

Iain's show is probably easier to replace with a best of compared to shows earlier in the day because there is no locally produced news or travel (only Sky News) and there aren't usually any topical references. Moyles often has best ofs instead of himself and that is on a radio station that has received huge investment.

It's also a time slot where relatively few people will have heard every show, every hour, every day so most people will find something new to listen to.

If i remember rightly Iain said that his boss had mentioned that some big names were going to be doing some cover at talkRADIO but he couldn't say who, only that it would have anoraks foaming at the mouth. I don't think he said about them covering his slot just general cover on the station.

Perhaps an ominous reflection of last week's ratings?

If they really are selections of genuine Best Ofs [although I know it's opinion what is good and what is bad] and it's not just selections they have simply randomly chosen I really don't mind them doing this one bit.
Let's be honest who can replace Iain Lee and do his type of show as good?.

Answer = nobody.

Last week's ratings for the Station were very good, of course we don't know how many Iain gets

You don't really need the person to step in and do Iain's show, if John Holmes sat in you'd expect him to a John Holmes show, Tommy Boys a Tommy Boyd show

The consensus here is that the figures were better than expected, however Iain seems to sound a bit down about them, and Jon this afternoon was suggesting that hardly anyone is listening. Presumably they have learned how well the individual shows are doing so maybe they have done less well than other shows. On the other hand, they may even think that 224,000 is too low. Iain was already sounding disappointed by last Thursday, before he had learned how well he had done personally. He was talking about how bland = success, how he would like to be successful (so by definition be bland) and mentioned the high figures that his nemesis Steve Allen and his time slot competitor Ian Collins got.

I can't remember the figures but Iain mentioned last night that a large number of people are downloading his podcasts and he sounded delighted about it. This is the usual way I listen to the show and it sounds like many others are the same, the benefits being you don't have to stay up while 1.00 every morning and if you do it like I do and listen to the unofficial podcasts all the crap is edited out. [adverts etc]

I suppose when Iain was talking about being delighted with the podcasts being downloaded he was referring the talkRADIO'S official podcasts and the bootleg ones are not counted.

While I'm on about podcasts can I just thank again the person who puts this website below together [I have forgotten your name] it is very very much appreciated every time I download one thank you.

Are the podcasts the whole show or just a "best bits"? Do you get them from the TR website (iTumes doesnt infect my PCs!).

I record the stream and listen the next day (and skip ads/news etc) but wondered if I could use these podcasts as a backup if my recording software failed.

The official podcasts are usually the final hour of the show (because it is the part of the show most people haven't heard) but interviews are also put out as "bonus podcasts".

Matthew Stephenson does unofficial full show podcasts, as well as recording the Periscope videos

Any output from talkRADIO is available in half hour chunks by clicking on "Listen Again" on the schedule, and can be downloaded directly using the following formula:

http://
cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/audio/listenagain/YYYYMMDD_HH00_LA.mp3 or
cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/audio/listenagain/YYYYMMDD_HH30_LA.mp3

(times are in GMT)

So 10 to 10.30 last night would be

http://cdn.talksport.com/talkradio/a...10_2100_LA.mp3

The unofficial ones from the link I posted yesterday are excellent Jamie they have all non-content removed and are always made available to download very quickly by Matthew.
