The call from Paul who calls about fantasy TV shows and channels was weird. Iain clearly tried to get him to stop calling about those things in the most gentle way possible and also dissuaded him from coming into the studio next Friday. Then there was a little argument on Periscope during the next break.

I caught up last night on Nigel, Caddick and Iain "singing", I can well imagine trying to sing something live on radio without anything rehearsed is very difficult but I have to be honest it sounded terrible.

Iain's show is excellent but that spot wasn't in my view, they can do so much better and I have the recordings of some of his best stuff to prove it.

For the record I think Alan Caddick is great but Nigel's singing bloody awful.

Ngel's singing is that of an old man. His lyrics, however, should strike a chord with the younger crowd; what with them being about Lindsay Lo-horn and Miley Cyrus. Incidentally did he say he wasn't so keen on LIndsay Lo-horn anymore? Maybe he's realised his chance has gone with her.

I guess the 10 foot posters of Miss Lo-horn will be coming down then from his bedroom walls if he's now gone off her, without those giant posters overlooking his bed what will poor old Nigel do with his hands in future while he's laid in bed?.

Well, we all had to take down the Agnetha from Abba, or Charlie's Angels posters at some stage. Not when we were in our fifties though.

I did wonder if the song they did, has sullied Lindsay Lo-horn in Nigel's eyes. I'm sure he will be on the lookout for more former child stars to "appreciate".

Agnetha from Abba?, you could be arrested for what I'm thinking what I'd have liked to have done with her back then.

I'm sure Caddick and to a lesser extent Nigel are lovely people, but I think the show needs less of them, and the very regular callers in general; I know Iain doesn't think they can afford to be picky at this point, but I'd much rather have, say, Iain reading from the papers a few more times a week than letting some of these people on every day.

I feel like some of them (Nigel in particular) call up for some semblance of fame rather than to contribute anything to the show, and if they call in more than once or twice a week it starts to get tired. I also think some of them are probably genuinely off-putting to new listeners. But hey, it's Iain's show, he's been doing this for years and what I think is ultimately irrelevant. I'm looking forward to new callers night tonight, though.

It's funny in my every-day work-life I can speak to politicians and heads of industry but waiting on the line to make that call is really nerve-wracking

I know I've said it before, but I think it's about balance. Iain's is a show that feels like it comes with a family, which is going to be a bit 'marmite', I suppose. It can be great to feel part of a listener family, but for others, it guess it can feel cliquey and repetitive, if you're not aware of the in-jokes.

Overall, I personally like the 'family feel' of the show. Of course, there are things that I don't like and do genuinely put me off. Middle-aged men talking about masturbation is... well, I can't think of quite the right word for it, but I really find it uncomfortable and off-putting, I cannot deny. I suppose it's the equivalent of the creepy uncle at the family gathering, and there's only so much I want to take of that.

After Iain tweeted a comment about there being a rape joke on his thread (Which, to be fair, was pretty off), someone replied saying something along the lines of "Those guys claim to love the show, but they happily slag off the best callers."

I think that's unfair. You can love something without necessarily liking everything about it. In fact, often being a fan of something is all about loving it in spite of its flaws; I love Doctor Who, but it doesn't mean there aren't bits of it I think are godawful and wish hadn't happened.

And obviously 'best callers' is subjective. I can see that people like Caddick and Nigel do add to the show sometimes, but I think they'd be a lot more effective if they were only deployed once or twice a week rather than every bloody day.

I think you're spot on with your 2nd paragraph and Iain has said as much himself on-air. If everyone liked everything, then you'd be talking about a very different kind of show - we're talking LBC-style almost unstintingly pandering to its UKIP-ey, Daily Mail-loving types if you go down that road.

PS - I love Dr Who, too, and feel the same way about it.

This is the honest to God truth. Just after I read Iain's Tweet about this thread I carried on listening to the full show podcast that I'm on (18th July, I'm well behind) and in a conversation about Pokemon Go and bad things that have happened to people playing it he said "There have been all manner of sex attacks, I keep going out trying to find one. Ho, ho, ho a joke about sex attacks, well done guys. Is that the best you can do Lee? You really are vile".

Absolutely unbelievable, despite the poster saying you could be arrested for it.

Even Iain Lee objected to it on Twitter, apparently. And he used to make sport of people on his radio shows with mental health and depression issues. Like Dion.

Maybe I should have worded it better but I most definitely was not referring to rape, it was an old joke but I probably got the wording wrong that's all, I do apologise if some people misunderstood it wrongly.
It shows of course how some people will make something out of nothing and I include Iain Lee in this, some of the things he says on his radio show could be easily taken offence at but we let it all go because we know it's in jest.

I don't know what was posted, but I do know this isn't a real apology.

I've always felt that if it's not nothing to someone else, then one should own and accept that and not try to say it's their fault for being over-sensitive or misunderstanding or something. That's what people like Bernard Manning used to say.

I assume from the wording of your post that it was you who complained and got my perfectly reasonable reply removed by the mods? And to think that so many Iain Lee disciples slag off regulars on the LBC thread for reporting posts to the mods to have them removed...

No I'm afraid you're wrong Makeba I am genuinely sorry for writing what I did in the way I did, to repeat I wrote it wrongly, it was a joke, I never mentioned rape or attacking anyone someone else did, I have apologised, I got it wrong and that's the simple truth and the end of it.

Sorry I didn't report anyone so stop the accusations, you making references to rape from an attempted joke is what has started all this.

There was absolutely no joke in my reply to you about the matter. It got removed. Your "attempted joke" was not...

He tends to do that quite a lot, I've noticed: get on his high horse about something that he's guilty of himself.

I remember him arguing with a caller a few weeks ago who'd swore and him saying how swearing showed a lack of intelligence, yet he regularly swears himself. I don't think he believes the things he says, he just wants to make the other person look worse than him.

Fair enough and that's very clear. And like I say, I don't know what was written anyway.

I just wanted to point out that the kind of apology that starts "I'm very sorry if someone misunderstood/got offended, etc etc" isn't really an apology.

There was also the time he was accused of racism. He spent the show moaning how unfair it was. He seems quite happy to call others racist however.

Much as I like his show, I do think he is quite a mixed-up person.
