"Failed LBC presenter, is that what he called me? Oh Steve, do grow up."
I caught that as well, nice swipe back at him, Steve is a bitter old man though

I've updated my completely unofficial podcast feed URL due to capacity problems with the original host.

http://podcasts.mywebcommunity.org/lee.php

I don't actually host any mp3 files - it's just a pointer to the TalkRADIO hosted files.
Thank you for that, very useful to download onto my phone to listen to later.

Just listening now to the unofficial podcast now, gave up on the official one which seemed to be a bit randomly edited and there was too much unnecessary interjection from the annoying lady producer.

Still not sure about the talkRADIO audio quality.

I tuned in during a break on LBC. It's strange hearing John from Swansea/Liverpool being friendly. Even Iain Lee isn't sure how to handle him.

"I know exactly what I'd do with Steve Allen's 4am spike" says Iain.

Don't we all.

Really enjoyable interview at the start of the Iain Lee show last night with XTC's Andy Partridge. A very enjoyable way to have begun the show, and a great interviewee he made.

The guy who put Monday's show on YouTube is now offering full show downloads. Last night's show is edited to remove ads etc.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?...Ws&usp=sharing

The file size is rather large because it is in 128 kbps stereo.
I'd like to thank whoever put these up. They are much better than my efforts! Will still download the official podcasts so as not to dilute the figures.

Just before 11 last night Iain was talking about what happens when you leave a radio station, because Manny who called him on WM had just found him. You rarely get to do your last show. He said he had planned something special but they cancelled his show. But also he said that he had planned a whole week of shows "at the other place" because he knew he was leaving there. Which "other place was that"? I'm guessing that was Absolute.

Also, does anyone remember Geeky Girl on LBC? She's a good caller so I'm surprised I don't remember her.

She sounds familiar. Like you say, good caller. I will listen closely to see if I can work it out.

I'm happy to do it until they start doing full show podcasts themselves,

I know there are people like me who can't listen to the full show live so I hope this helps for the time being
It certainly does, many thanks! This week has been brilliant. Not only have we Iain back, but Kath too and also a talk radio station that has no sport on it. The stars have truly aligned

It looks like the timings have shifted an hour in the Listen Again browser, so if you click 0600 to 0630 you get 0500 to 0530 but the filenames seem to be still correct

Really enjoyed this first week. While I enjoyed the BBC shows its SO good to hear Iain back in a more "freeform" environment, and its good that Kath has come with him.
Nice selection of callers from all the past shows too, Barnsworth from LBC, Rob Burnett from Absolute, Dennis from Dunstable from 3CR, Manny from WM, seems like everybody has found out he's on national radio again!
And enjoying the guests too, while I don't share Iain's taste in music he always brings the best out of his guests in his interviews and they always make for an interesting listen.
Looking forward to the next three and a half years until he gets the sack again!

Hi Sleeps.

Have you been listening to Iain Lee at all or are you sticking with Talksport?

Btw I hope you've jinxed yourself with that score prediction.

Did anybody hear that call from the suicidal lady? Absolutely heartbreaking but brilliantly handled. I'm very glad Iain is so open about mental illness.

I hope the lady can get through this.

Two words I would use to describe Iain Lee as a radio presenter are honest and genuine. This is what makes him unique as a broadcaster and therefore a very enjoyable listen.

I listened to all 3 hours tonight on my headphones via my pocket DAB while spring cleaning out a cupboard. A wonderfully engaging show, and yes the tone instantly changed when the suicidal lady came on after midnight. It's a very long time since I've heard a call like that on radio.

What did I think? Interesting one this. When he said to her that he himself had been suicidal on the Saturday of last weekend I initially thought he appeared to be trivialising her own situation by saying he had been having the same feelings. Had he really? I'm not aware of his own personal issues other than an article I read a year or two back where he wrote about the very severe headaches/migraine's he frequently gets which can debilitate him. Also, I wasn't sure about his advice for her to simply go to bed, turn everything off and then wake up at 8am to the new day. As many will know, it's often the lying in bed at 4am in the dead of night with your mind racing with uncontrollable thoughts and fears that can be a big problem. Plus when it comes to morning and time to get up to face the day ahead it can be almost impossible for deeply depressed people to even manage that simple task of stepping out of bed, not just at 8am but even by lunchtime.

He didn't hustle her off air which was good though, and pass her to the switchboard to get some further help like some might have done within short order. He said he'd spoken to her before on the radio, but then said he didn't think she would do herself harm tonight. Maybe not but best not to be quite so presumptive. You can never be certain. He did his best and didn't go down the more predictable route with the lady. He talked "with" her, not "down" to her and I hope she felt marginally better for the conversation she had with him.

More people take their lives in the spring months, so right around now and the next few weeks ahead. It goes against what you might expect, with brighter days and better weather. Most would presume autumn or winter. The reasons why spring has this effect are not fully understood.

On a lighter note, after that call Iain mentioned Samaritans and people who ring up and masturbate while talking to them because apparently The Samaritans can't put the phone down on callers. I was aghast. Whatever next!

Iain has been quite open about his battles with depression on social media and on his BBC 3CR shows, and he did seem particularly low last weekend.

That call became the most notable part of the show. However, the first half hour was great radio particularly for us radio geeks. He discussed how he liked and disliked some parts of the talkRADIO schedule, pointing out the the fact that he disliked some parts was a good thing as it means there is something for everyone. He singled out Howard Hughes for particular praise. He also talked about the general lack of calls across the station (apart from his show) but said calls will come as people start to find the station. He reiterated his love for speech based radio, the presenters he respects, what he likes about the genre and even quoted Nick Abbot later in the show.

Iain wrote a blog post about a year ago about his own struggle with depression. Since then he's spoken and tweeted about it quite a lot. I can well believe that last weekend he felt suicidal. He freely admits that he has bad periods even now and he would have been two days away from starting a new radio show which could quite bluntly make or break his career. That alone isn't necessarily enough to drive anyone to take their own life, but if you're already struggling then it might.

I thought he was incredibly honest and caring in that call, but with an Iain edge to it. There were small jokes in there, but if the woman in question chose to call Iain of all people(not meant disrespectfully, but to many he may not be an obvious choice) then she would know that about him if you see what I mean.

I just hope she wasn't paying for the call! The phone bill following that could drive anyone to the edge.
