There were calls throughout the show with only a few minutes of Bob and Kath chatting. Callers were kept on for longer than normal with Kyle and Dana getting two lengthy calls each.

Jonathan called?! What a baptism of fire for Bob!

I didn't hear all the call but in the bits I heard Jonathan was very nice and calm talking to Bob.

Bob was talking about games and that is the one non-controversial topic that Jonathan really likes so they managed to talk for ages without anyone getting angry.

They should have talked Brexit, he was really calm on that subject.

Bob Mills was a great host, he was positive, entertaining, upbeat and engaging and didn't struggle for callers. Jonathan's call re computer games and tv game shows was excellent to listen to and so towas Danas and Kyle's calls about Bob appearing on Dr Who.

I think his passion for radio and genuine interest in the callers reflected on the regular callers who didn't come across as negative and down.

He was a great stand in presenter who coped really well as a late replacement for Iain.

Yep, agree with that. Because of the type of show it is, the right host is essential. It's not the sort of show you can do on autopilot, because callers go off on tangents.

Any news on whether Iain is back tonight? He is active on Twitter retweeting stuff, but nothing about the show unfortunately. Hope everything is OK.

I enjoyed Bob Mills, very chatty, I liked him. But I missed Iain and was sad that he said he was at his lowest ebb, wishing you all the very best, boss.

Sometimes its to do with the callers there are some nights that I just can't listen to yet another caller ringing in about their alcoholism, depression ....etc. At times it can feel like a Radio 5 Mid-Morning Show

When I sense it to be one of those nights I'll tune out and find something a bit more entertaining

To be honest I'm exactly the same I tune out when it's about sad things in life like depression and alcoholism, I listen to the show for a little light relief at the end of a busy day, to be entertained with a few laughs and Mister Lee's sharp wit. In my view when Iain and the callers are on form being funny and entertaining it's the best show on radio anywhere.

The sad stuff I leave others to listen to it.

Yeah, I take your points on board. I'm struggling to get the balance right, I really am. Give me a bit more time to get there. It will never all be for everyone but perhaps I can shift things a bit. Let me see what I can do.

You've hit the nail right on the head in saying how I feel about the show in a constructive way so thank you. Last night I had to tune out as it wasn't entertaining me, I realise this may be selfish as it's Iain's show but i guess that's just how I felt.

Glad Iain is considering the balance and your comments.

I think the fact that different nights have completely different tones is something to be celebrated.

I don't listen every night for various reasons, but I love the fact that I can tune in and expect something unexpected.

Thanks for commenting Aaron I really wasn't trying to sound harsh about the show, some people might like it when Iain is doing a more serious show I know that all I was trying to give was a personal opinion and I was relieved Iain understood that and was nice about it.
We don't all say this show is great and don't mean it, it's a brill show usually and that's why everyone on here listens and talks about it on here.

I take all the comments made in the last day or two as constructive criticism. I appreciate the feedback.

I don't mind the clunky gear changes. I'm a similar age to Iain, from a similar area/background and probably in a similar situation in some ways so it's comforting to hear someone I can relate to talking about real life. Then other nights it's great to hear the less serious shows.

I like the way you have no idea before you tune in what the show is going to be like, unlike LBC these days when it's usually just following on from what the previous presenter was talking about.

I don't think anyone minds about the clunky gear-changes but its when on some nights the show can get into caller after caller wanting to discuss their problems treating the show as a free therapy session and the clunky-gear-change doesn't go back to fun

Despite Iain saying he welcomes the Gear Changes sometimes it feels out of place, the other night I was going to phone in with my wife's Trio albums, but just as I was about to ring an alcoholic was on talking about how bad their life was and I felt out of place talking about something as effete as a track listing

This is why I think one depressing call can lead to a night of such calls people don't feel comfortable introducing sillyness amidst others terrible lives

As a long time Iain fan i enjoy his silly stuff a lot but i'm actually really liking the little bit of serious life stuff. A couple of shows Iain has done in the last few months they have a literally made me stop and think about my own life in regards to the issue being discussed.

Great that the comments from people who don't enjoy the serious stuff though have been constructive and not just slagging off the show, it's one thing i like about Iain's current shows there seems to be a great community element to them.

There was a discussion about loneliness with contributions from men and women. The conclusion of discussion seemed to be an idea for a mans only group, considering the subject I thought this idea was crass.
