Can anybody help with an LG TV problem?
I wonder if anybody would be able to diagnose and offer advice on a problem I've been having with my LG TV over the last couple of months.
Basically, when I watch something connected to the TV via the HDMI ports - Sky box, DVD player etc - I get intermittent drop-outs of both picture and sound for a few seconds and then it all comes back as normal. Sometimes it happens infrequently and sometimes it happens often - although it does seem to happen most in the hour or two after I've switched the TV on. Initially I thought it was just the devices themselves, but after switching HDMI cables all over the place and plugging things into different ports in all sorts of combinations, I've come to the conclusion that it must be the set at fault. Furthermore, I suspect it might be a problem with the HDMI ports because I recall that the problem only started when I did some reconnecting to hook up a new device and noticed a flash on the screen as though some static had discharged itself into the set through the HDMI cable when I plugged it in. Now I know next to nothing about how a TV works, so would anybody be able to advise me on what the problem actually is based on what I've described and what it would take to fix it - if indeed it can be fixed at all? |

I've had this exact problem with my LG Plasma and Sky HD, although it's not happened for some time. It's never happened with any other HDMI devices attached to the TV - Blu-ray player, PS3, HD media player. My TV is under 2 years old, so it shouldn't be a tech problem.
I've come to the conclusion it must be something like an HDCP issue between the TV and the Sky box. |

I feel your pain here. As with all intermittent electrical faults, they're almost impossible to nail down. You can't dignose a problem which you might only get once a month and under different circumstances from the previous time it happened.
If it's happening with all devices regardless of HDMI port, then it's almost certainly a fault with the TV. Are you still under warranty? |

LG are well known for fitting sub-standard electrolytic capacitors, so it 'could' be down to various of those failing (LG capacitor failures are a common report in engineer forums).
