Never tried this but a lot of my friends bragg about drinking it so what does it taste like?

Brag??
It's quite pleasant bubbly wine that's suitable for drinking as is or as the main ingredient of a cocktail.
Any supermarket will have a brand at around £7/10.
It's often described as a cheap version of champagne - unfairly as it doesn't pretend to be so.

I suppose it depends on which Prosecco you have. They will all taste different in the same way other wines taste different from one another depending on price/quality, grape, brand etc.

Broadly speaking it's just sparkling white wine; and prosecco is usually sweeter and 'nicer' to me than Champagne which is generally quite dry and 'sour' by comparison (although of course that's purely a matter of personal opinion and taste).

It's just Hyacinth Bucket's version of Cava. Really rather nasty in spite of the hype, but this is from someone who would rather have a good pint of beer than a glass of champagne.

Ah, that explains why it's sold in every establishment in Italy.
What would they know, eh?

It's only cheap and nasty if you buy a cheap and nasty bottle. Saying that there are some very nice and cheap bottles too. You can get some very nice bottles for £7-£10.

I prefer it to Champagne. Like Hypnodisc I find it sweeter and nicer than champagne which you usually have to spend quite a bit in to get a decent bottle.

I really like it, much prefer it to champagne or cava.

Not really. Compared to the price of champagne it's an absolute bargain.

Surely it's only cheap and nasty if you buy a cheap and nasty bottle. As with anything, beer, wine, whatever you can get expensive stuff and you can get cheap stuff. Sometimes cheaper stuff is good, sometimes it's bad.

I'd rather drink beer than anything else but I don't mind a glass of champagne or prosecco every so often.

It has suddenly seemed to become very popular though, a few years ago it was barely mentioned. We've actually just had a prosecco and oyster bar opened in my local town.

Have to say Aldi's Prosecco is my favourite and so easy to drink. Only £5.49.

Like Cava it's a cheaper alternative to Champagne, it can be dry or semi-dry to sweetish. Like any wine it can vary and in my experience some are better than others, a good one is very nice. It does seem to be popular at the mo.

Similar to how Fosters lager is sold in the UK – and drinks don't come much more disgusting than that.

Not sure what relevance Fosters has to Prosecco. Australians don't drink much Fosters but then If i was taking advice on good beer the Australians would be close to the last people I would ask.

Most prosecco, whether cheap or expensive is too sweet for me.

Prefer a decent Cava or Champagne every time.

Then it's an even better bargain! Have been known to buy a box or two for convenience as I love it so much. Must look like I have a drinking problem (which I don't!) but it regularly sells out.

No analogy at all.
I've travelled Australia and you'd be hard pushed to find Fosters.
I've travelled Italy and they promote their Prosecco everywhere.

I didn't mention Australia – I said in the UK. The point I was making was that just because something's on sale everywhere it doesn't equate with quality. If it makes you happy, simply change Fosters to Carlsberg.

Some prosecco is very good.

had a glass of this in a local bar and it was lovely:Prosecco ‘Borgo Del Col Alto’

I find most champagne too dry for my personal taste although I quite like cava.

It may just be that I have never spent enough on champagne to taste a really good one.

Fosters (spit) is promoted in the UK as an "Australian" brew that I never once saw served in Australia. They had far better beers available.
Prosecco is an Italian wine that Italians drink and promote in Italy.

Fosters to Carlsberg is hardly stepping up.

It still makes no sense, it's just a random comparison.

Italy is one of the culinary capitals of the world and produces world class wines, while Australia sort of isn't.

That would work if Australia was known for it's great taste in beer. But it's not.

Just for information, Fosters is the UK's second highest selling beer. Australias is Castlemaine XXXX.

And Fosters doesn't even appear in the Oz top 10 selling beers.
