Hi

For the past week or so my Panasonic TH42PZ80 has had a blue bar down the right had edge of the screen. It has often vanished after about 30-40 mins but Tuesday it stayed there all evening

Has anyone got any idea if this is something that can be easily (and cheaply) repaired or am I looking at having to move to LCD?

Sorry to hear that. I fear a repair will be difficult.

I have a spare PZ81B if you want to make me an offer for it.

Pretty likely it's a plasma panel fault, much too expensive to repair, assuming a panel was even available?.

If you want an 'estimate'? - look out your original invoice for the TV, stick 10%-50% on that price, and you won't be far out.

Agree almost certainly a panel fault, and for an eight your old TV even if you could find a replacement screen it is highly likely the repair would cost more than a new

whilst its a great tv, blacks and movement aren't not a patch on my old plasma
if everything was broadcast in 4k that would help.

shame they stopped making them.

ps.
i put the settings in from this site, picture was way better than over bight default.

oh and one more thing, first thing to do when you turn it on is update software, half my tv functions didn't work until i did that.

I may hold off for a few days. The blue line that had been there for the past 3 days has suddenly disappeared. I'll see how it goes for now...

That's a very good point. I forgot to mention when I read this last night that a close relative who has a 7 year old Panny plasma suffered odd lines on her set last year but after a week or two it cleared up. Just like that, and 6 months later, it's still fine. I've had similar things happen in years gone by to my big old Sony CRTs, which also cleared themselves up.

Who knows why these things happen but it could be something as simple as very dry or very humid air, rapid changes from one to the other including temperature changes, an accidental knock by someone, well almost anything but if it's cleared up, you may be OK for months or years more. You said originally 'for the last week or so', well on 14th. March, we had short-lived unusually low humidity in many parts of England (<30% some places), followed by very high humidity overnight. Just saying.

It has intermittently reappeared since I posted my last message. Maybe I could raise funds for a new OLED set by holding bets on weather it will be there or not when I turn it on

If I keep having problems and at annoys me too much I think I might go for this one
