LG Smart TV picture blanks out momentarily when I choose a Sky channel.....
Right, this is the problem (if it is one..), whenever I'm scrolling through the Sky + on screen tv guide and I choose something to watch the screen will go blank for a second or two before the picture resumes. Not the most irritating thing in the world but mildly annoying mostly because I'm worried it's the start of a bigger problem. Some kind of memory failure or a connection problem, maybe? My father in law suggested it might be the HDMI cable about to fail. I don't know. The tv's a 2011 LG Smart tv purchased in 2012. Any ideas?

This seems pretty normal to me. Changing channels on digital TV always takes a little time, since it has to wait for a key-frame and then resynch with the audio.
There's no problem with the cable, symptoms of cable failure are quite different. |

This is normal if your switching between SD and HD channels and the tv resolution is set to Auto. If you adjust the tv settings to Always show 1080i the "blanking" should go away. That's how it is on my Sony.
Wouldn't be normal if your getting that effect when flicking from one SD channel to another SD channel or one HD channel to another HD channel. |

Interesting. Mine does the same although it's not attached to Sky or owt, simply after changing freeview channels, if will go form one to another, start then go blank for a couple of seconds.
Wll have a look at those settings...thanks! |

Thanks, guys. That's exactly what it was except it was the Sky + Box's settings not the tv's that was on Automatic instead of 1080i. I changed it back to the latter and it's fine now.
Cheers. |
