Does anyone know the best place to buy extended warrentys for A/V equipment?

Cheers

Such warranties rarely offer sensible value for money. Are you really sure you need one?

If you're buying it with the product, then Currys offer better service than anyone. Guaranteed engineer visit in 2 working days, 21 day replacement. Can be paid upfront, or via pay-as-you-go direct debit (although the latter works out a bit more expensive).

You are also free to cancel at any time, and receive the relevant proportion of your money back.

(BTW, for the record I do work for Currys, but have previously worked for Comet, and Currys Warranties (*cough* sorry, Product Support) beats the competition hands down.)

If it's for an existing product, then I haven't a clue

Bear in mind (and a lot of people don't think to do this) ask your existing home contents insurer how much it will cost to add these items to your policy........in most cases it works out cheaper.
It won't hurt to get a quote.......just give them the value of the items.

I got a 5.1 set up in comet today, I managed to haggle £37 off the cost of the set up if i bought a £39.99 3 year warranty. I thought 2.99 wasnt bad.

Unless you are incredibly unlucky then you're far better off putting the money you are tempted to spend on an extended warranty in your own bank account. Ask yourself when you last had a problem with consumer electronic equipment.

As for "Currys providing better service than anyone", it's certainly not my experience of Currys or any other part of the DSG empire (Dixons, The Link, PC World, Currys). To be fair, I've not had wonderful service from Comet either which is why neither Comet nor DSG get much business from me.

John Lewis (a store that IMO does understand the concept of service) offers 5 year guarantees on TVs at no extra cost and most of the other electronics it sells come with two year warranty as standard.

I found this site give it a try www.warrantyex.co.uk. £193.56 for 5 years for a 32" LCD looks good to me.
