Hello Stig. The full story is this. I went into Stormfront to ask why my iPad was misbehaving, and the girl said, bring it in for us to look at - but make sure that you do a complete back up.
I've been into settings, where I am told that an automatic back-up takes place regularly. Fine, but I would really like to be able to see what is actually backed-up. It's just that I'm very nervous about having the thing fiddled with, without knowing what I am going to get back at the end of it all. I can see on my PC what I have sent to a disk, or usually, a flash drive. Why cannot I have this assurance with iPad. It's my age, Stig. I'm 73 in two weeks! |

It backs up virtually everything, so I wouldn't worry about it. The last time I restored from a back up it was completely painless. Just check your last back up date in settings-iCloud-backup to make sure it is recent.
See https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12519?locale=en_GB If you are leaving it somewhere to be fixed I would wipe it clean first anyway to avoid personal information being read, but if you tell us your problem someone may know the solution. |

The first thing to try is to make sure it's backed up, then do an erase, then restore it from iCloud again. Well, I posted about it a couple of weeks ago. The problem is that I will be trying to read a website when the screen goes blank and I receive the message - there has been a problem with this website and it has been reloaded. I then get it back after ten seconds, but it usually disappears again when I try to move the page up.
Someone suggested that I disable JavaScript and this did work for a while, but then ceased to do so, but in any case I need Java for certain of my apps. I can do what you have suggested, Stig, but it is a question of having the confidence to do so. I'm sure that that would solve the problem which only exists on certain websites. Particularly Daily Mirror and Morning Star, if that helps. All the adverts, perhaps? |

I remember your thread about it now.
I suspect the part of the problem is the age of your iPad 2 especially if you have updated it to IOS9.2 or 3. It is struggling to cope with the newer operating system and, as you say, all the adverts! The iPad Air 2 has recently dropped in price following the launch of the iPad Pro. It might be worth the investment. Incidentally, an erase and restore might sound daunting, but it is very, very easy if you want to try it. Also, try going to safari settings and clearing history and website data regularly as well. It may give your iPad 2 a stay of execution for a while. |

Hello again, Stig and Anjomo.
I appear to have solved the problem purely by accident. This morning I was unable to play my music on the iPad. After trying various remedies without success, I finally thought of switching the tablet off completely, and starting it again. Sound working, and (so far), I can read websites without the page disappearing. I should have considered this much sooner of course. Any other electronic gadget giving trouble, and this the first line of attack. Why I didn't think to do it with the iPad is anyone's guess. Thank you both for your advice. Much appreciated. Ian J |
