It was fine. A welcome change from the usual. Hopefully Atkinson will flesh out Maigret's character in the next episode. I'm assuming he played him the way he did because of the storyline (5 dead women and unable to find the killer) and won't be quite as emotionally reigned in next time.

Likewise - Rowan Atkinson not a good fit for the role.

However, the convenient piece of material with a button attached was a perfect rectangle, so how did the woman get it? ![]() Quote:
I thought it was total shit even by ITV's low standards. Atkinson was woefully miscast and the story was just dull.

The only problem I have with it is that there was only one. They should have broadcast at least 3 episodes so people could get to know the characters. By the time they show the next one, I'll have forgotten who they are our what they did.

Shame they could not have got Roger Allam for the title role.

I really enjoyed the first episode. I've lost all interest in this one though. Maybe it's me, I'm feeling ill. but I'm finding it pretty hard going.
Roll on 'Witness for the Prosecution' tomorrow and Tuesday. I know the story and its brilliant twists but really looking forward to watching this new version. |

Seems ridiculous no-one in the cast bothers to do a FRENCH accent! If 'Allo 'Allo! could do I don't see why Maigret can't!
Can you imagine if a French tv company wanted to make their version of Morse, filmed the show in Oxford, UK, and the actors spoke French! LOL |

I thought tonight's episode was great and glad that evil gangster and horrible mother got thier commupense.
May not have the action film feel or the clever plot twists and red herrings of the Sherlock Holmes stories but good old classic detective story. |

In any event no-one in the Michael Gambon version from the 90s did a French and I doubt anyone from the Rupert Davies version from the 60s did either |

Atkinson's stillness at the centre of this I find appealing. Even if you didn't take to the story, just bathe in the production design. Happy for ITV to make more of these and remind us all what they used to do as a matter of course.
