i though the shows i meant to move forwards not go backwards
To be fair they did try to move forwards last year and it died on its arse, back to basics is the best thing which hopefully won't alienate the audience that have remained loyal to it

i still maintain that the biggest flaw the show has is the judges dont give meaningful critiques, i'm sick of hearing how someone murdering a classic song by turning into a john lewis ad has "made it their own" or someone who has the vocal ability of a budgie with a bad throat but looks cute is going to be the "next big popstar"

bringing louis walsh back is just going to make that worse as he hasn't had an original thought since the 90s

dermot is a good professional and a step in the right direction, room auditions without all the gimmicks and baying chavs of arena auditions might see an end to people getting through for the wrong reasons, altho i wont hold out hope for that, but until the judges have the freedom and knowledge to give honest opinions the show will continue to struggle

Seems a pretty desperate move, Dermot is a competent presenter but given the show has been in decline since 2011 I can't see viewers suddenly flocking back just because he's returned when Cowell and Sharon Osborne's return had no effect.

Cowell has clearly run out of ideas but instead of resting the show and allowing goodwill and nostalgia to build up to enable a successful return he will run the show into the ground.

I hope Simon has learnt his lesson and will not bring back the contestants begging for their chance to go to Judge's Houses as it was just degrading.

Room auditions are great, I'd like Simon, Sharon, Cheryl & Louis as judges

Well, this is just "WOW" stuff... ITV - This is just amazing, a revelation - its like really being able to turn back time to a "rush" moment you wont forget. On hearing this news instantly thought of a rancid, blocked toilet, where the flusher has been hit once too many times in desperation...and where strangely enough the Xfactor will once again be guaranteed to be overflowing with the same stuff as the pan!

Of all the changes they made in the last series, getting rid of Dreary O'Leary was one that appealed to me.

Not looking forward to his return.

Very, very pleased about Dermot returning, and hopefully no more live judges houses etc, and if they were to take away the six chair challenge and do away with the over the top dramatics then maybe the XF will be great again, but for me I'm wishing, praying, hoping that maybe just maybe..........................................................

Nicole will come back again!!

Talk about desperation, this show needs to be put to sleep.

Fantastic news.

Now just get Rita/Cheryl to piss off and King Louis Walsh to return and we're good.
I'm glad Dermot has been asked to come back as he's a decent presenter, but I'll miss the car crash that was last season!

Well, not that I agree with the 'King' bit I think bringing him back would be a good idea. It's a pantomime of a show and Louis Walsh fits the bill perfectly as Widow Twanky with the Ugly Sister Sharon and Simon.

The show isn't really about trying to find a credible act anymore, well hasn't been for many years really - so they should just stick to what they know well and what works, a show which us viewers shouldn't take too seriously, but as Saturday evening light entertainment.

That was really cringey

Last year was my least favourite series.

Hope they ditch the six chair challenge and just go back to Bootcamp (with acts whittled down) and JH.

I'm glad Dermot is back. Have they said who is presenting Xtra yet?

Wow. And that will make viewers return? I very much doubt it. This dog of a show needs putting to sleep - permanently

I'm happy Dermots back hope they get rid of the 6 chair challenge now too.
I thought Dermot had already said he was returning in January.
Maybe Dannii is returning if she isn't doing the australia xfactor

Was about to say the same its one of the only parts of the show now that creates some drama and tension and isn't always 100% predictable

This news is quite sad on all parts here. Dermot's probably more so.

He must have had a good cheque in the post.

Despite him being a good presenter, this just looks desperate on all parts.

How much more embarssement are they going to put the X Factor through? Have they no shame?

Great news, and that room auditions have returned.

Now all we need is Louis and Sharon back and the show can actually be on track to being entertainment once again.
Saw a bit of this mornings GMB and they mentioned Dermot will be back. I got the impression that Simon, Cheryl, Sharon and Louis Walsh are also all but confirmed as they were the four faces they shown and given that it's on ITV, it's probably true. Notably, they used a very old clip of Cheryl (where she looked very pretty and healthy) but recent ones of the rest, it is almost as though they're just trying to pretend last year didn't happen even down to that.

It's just a shame the DS writer wanted to talk about his 'bulge'.

The DS articles are sinking quicker than X Factor and the writer clearly isn't mature enough to stick to topic and would rather body name and body shame.

Mark Sidaway is back too.

https://twitter.com/marksidaway/stat...41720974868480

He got a fair amount of rap on here, and was of course partly responsible for the show's ongoing flaws (manipulation etc.), but his production was a lot slicker and less amateurish. Last year's production values really were a total joke.

Dermot "I think the show should be rested for a year"

ITV "we will offer you double the amount of money you got paid in 2014"

Dermot "OMG, WHERE DO I SIGN. WHERE'S THE PEN? GIVE IT 'ERE!!!"

If i was in Dermots shoes i would have said stick your offer. They clearly underestimated how improtant to the show he was. Xfactor is a sinking ship now why go back?

I don't get why they want him back so badly. He's a better presenter than Olly and Caroline of course, but it was crap with him and without him. The main issue with the show is the contestants and the format. Anyone who's a bit unique or quirky doesn't stand a chance and if you're female you're not deemed as good enough unless you can belt and scream the house down.
