Cat Drool....

One of my cats drools incessantly when I stroke her. She's always done it & it stinks, but I love her anyway, just wondered if there's a specific reason & if there's a kindly way to stop her doing it?

Cat's tend to drool when they purr, you can't really do anything to stop it. Unless you stop stroking them.

The smell you can deal with by cleaning their teeth, you can get cat friendly tooth pastes some are even minty if your cat will let you use them.

If it smells it is almost certainly due to either an abscess or a bad tooth. Best get the vet to check it out.

A lot of them do this - the fact that it smells unpleasant is indicative of a dental problem. It shouldn't smell at all.

My mum's cat does it. The vet did advise having teeth removed but said it wasn't a necessity and the cat isn't in any pain.

The Beast is terrible for drooling/dribbling when he is being stroked, or tickled around the face. He then likes to wipe his face on my shoulder, leaving me with the proverbial wet patch.

But he looks so cute; eyes clamped shut, purring like a tuned moped.

Never had any smells so far.

Cat drool I can cope with, dog drool another matter; we had a Labrador that would drool, and it was disgusting.

Then he would shake his head and it would wrap itself around his nose like silly string, grim.
