I thought this would be easy, all I'm looking for is a portable mains/battery radio/Cd Player an MP3 player, ( Non Apple ), can be attached via jacks, so music from the MP3 player can be heard via the radio/cd unit.

I cant' find such a product.

Just for clarification, are you looking to buy a boombox and an MP3 player? If you are then it would also be helpful if you gave us your budget.

In the meantime, here are some possible options:
Sony ZS-RS70BTB Wireless DAB Boombox with CD/Bluetooth/NFC/USB Play at £118.99.
Sony NWZ-B183 4GB USB Style MP3 Player at £34.99.

You can hear music from the MP3 player by connecting them using a USB cable.

This has an audio in connection - would seem to do what you want:

Thank you all for the replies and advise, sorry for the delay in replying.

All the links/units have an aux in which is what I am looking for, to connect a separate MP3 player to.

I don't have a real budget in mind but figured up to £90 should do it.

Although the cheaper models have what I want, bit concerned about sound quality?

Well, I guess it depends on what sound quality you're expecting? What are you comparing it to?

If you've got a decent quality hifi system, then the portable units you've been shown will fall short of your expectations. If you're used to a portable radio / cd player, then these will be similar to what you are used to.

To be honest, when you're comparing sub £ 100 items, they're all built to a price point and the quality will reflect that.

Hi seacam,

Just to confuse you further here's another Sony, the #1 Best Seller CFD-S50 for £45: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-CFDS50-...s=sony+CFD-S50. It's a current model with 298 reviews on Sony's UK site, 2 x 1.7W RMS with Mega Bass, Audio In 3.5mm mini-jack socket for connecting MP3 players, FM/AM tuner with 30 presets, CD-R/RW and MP3 CD player with shuffle and program functions, and a cassette deck with recorder too. Weight 2kg: http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/boomboxes/cfd-s50.

p.s. Hope you're feeling better.

Hi Alan

I agree, I'm not going to get anything like HiFi quality out of a £100 box.

I don't require it to play music from an MP3 player in the first instance, I require it so I can playback several conversation held on the MP3 player through the box.

Hi evil, thank you I am on the mend.

Since writing the original thread and kind of stumbling into other BBs via the links given above I came across the CDFS50.

It's ideal-----but then I got to thinking and realised what I actually require is a BB I can carry around in a briefcase or a shoulder bag, so maybe something tubular/flat still needs an Aux in, mains/battery or mains rechargeable but what would also be useful but not an absolute,--a remote control, something the Sony doesn't have.

But also I kind of thought I would feel a little self conscious carrying around a alien eye shaped boob box,---something a little more discrete might suit me better.

And initially I require it it to play back voice conversations held on a separate MP3 player.

If all you need is a method to make a noise from an mp3 player then try this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bose-SoundLi.../dp/B00XVKW0PY

Not cheap but (unusually for Bose ) actually sounds pretty good, especially given the diminutive size.

Okay I can see you're trying to test me...so what about this Sony ZS-PE40CP Slim (33 x 16.6 x 8.9 cm) £74.95 at Superfi plus £3.99 p&p: http://www.superfi.co.uk/p-14272-son...FbEW0wodx8gI-w. There's 63 reviews of it on Amazon but it's £90 there: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-ZSPE40C...=Sony+ZSPE40CP. No remote though.

Or what about an under counter model with a remote, like this Soundmaster UR 2050 £72.65: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soundmaster-...UR+2050+Stereo. There's no carrying strap and it's mains only, but it would fit into a briefcase I guess, 26 x 20.8 x 7.5 cm. There's a more expensive model as well priced at £100, but the reviews I saw were poor and one said this cheaper one was better.

Something else probably no good though, with a remote, but again mains only and this won't fit in your briefcase, Sony CMT-X3CDB for £109 at AO: http://ao.com/product/cmtx3cdr-sony-...37874-166.aspx. Also see it at Currys with 144 reviews but priced at £120: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/audio-a...93879-pdt.html.
