Sharp Blu Ray Player Sound Issue
I know its old and superseded but I have recently gained access to a Sharp BDHP25S Blu Ray player.
Connected to my Sony television via HDMi yet it is so damn quiet on playback, I literally have to turn the television up to about 60 to even hear anything. I've done a firmware update (although a sound fix was never mentioned) I've ran it through a soundbar and subwoofer too and still really, really quiet. Should I just bite the bullet and accept that its crap or is there something I am missing to get some decent sound out of it without having to turn the volume up to 80?! Thanks. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharp-BDHP25.../dp/B0054OZVFQ |

I've got 2 even older Sharp Blu-rays (BD-HP20), and they are exactly the same. I have to turn the sound right up when playing Blu-rays to get decent sound.
Must just be a Sharp thing, I suppose. |

Been reading the manual online. Seems it is impossible to set the HDMI audio to downmixed stereo mode. Which would be the obvious choice for a direct connection to a TV which is likely to be stereo only.
Seems you can only output a multi channel format of one type or another over HDMI but can output plain stereo over the optical output. So I'm wondering how a TV expecting plain stereo interprets a 5.1 channel audio signal? Mind you whether being able to feed plain stereo over HDMI would make any difference is another matter. perhaps if the soundbar has an optical input you could try linking the player to the soundbar using optical and see if that is any different to using HDMI. |

I always thought that the sound issues, ie not loud enough were down to the dynamic sound range?

Re: your last point, yeah I did connect direct to the soundbar via optical but made no difference. |
