They *really* should have given Kevin a quieter series last year - with the level of Clifton saturation we're now at I think all three of them will need a quiet series this year (if Jo is indeed promoted back to partnering a celeb).
From a personal point of view based on not actually liking the way they dance, I wouldn't care if I never saw Karen or Janette dance again - however both seem absolute sweethearts and able to give a less able celeb a fun time, which for 90% of the celebs involved is really all that matters.

I think Kevin's run last year was more due to the sheer indomitability of Kellie as much as him. The dreaded 'on paper' wouldn't have put a 39 year old lady working flat out on a big soap storyline much chance of making it past half way, let alone the final.

Who went to Sylvia Young. Still a ringer in my book.
We've had people juggling soaps with SCD before who have gone far (e.g. Scott Maslen, even though he was burned out by the end) so it's not undoable.

Think it's something we often forget. If Strictly wants to stay popular, it needs to attract a variety of Celebrities who are popular in their field - to attract a wide variety of viewers. So some Pros who are - as you neatly put it aggs - absolute sweethearts are needed to attract some celebrities.

If the Celebrities won't sign because they've heard their mates didn't enjoy it, then Strictly loses out and doesn't attract the viewers.

Think Kevin does well here as his partners all seem to have liked him, and he's a good teacher. He's also one of the few left with a solid grounding in both Latin and ballroom. He's popular with some viewers too - lots of people I know think he's great. (I like him, but I was more an Aliona dance fan).

Do think Kellie though was the biggest ringer after Helen - top quality training at Sylvia Young from a child plus dance classes for years - but all credit to her work ethic!

I still think an soap actress of a certain age has a bigger hill to climb than her male counterparts in these kind of shows I don't think in a celeb line up that included Jay, Georgia, Helen ... and Peter ... that the Partership Pairing Elves said, ooh, Kellie with Kevin. Final number 3 right there.

Actually, I think if she had come up against Peter any other week than the one straight after Jamelia, she would have gone instead.

Hi All, just to let you know I was at An Audience with Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite last night at the Beck Theatre, and during the Q and A session, Natalie said she had been signed up for the next two series, which they don't usually do. Ian said something like they must be trying to hang onto Pro's, after so many leaving this year. I know they usually sign up year by year, so thought this was quite interesting.

Thank you for this news, I'm thrilled Natalie will be back. She's been one of my favourite pros since she joined Strictly

Happy that we get to keep Natalie as an original pro. It's her turn for a ringer this time.

I wonder what Aliona did to get on the wrong side of Ian? He always seems like the type to get on with everyone.

Thank you for the news about Natalie. I also hope she gets someone good this year - it's just a shame the really tall men don't seem to be good dancers. I'm still hoping she'll get mega ballet ringer Jeremy Sheffield one year .

This is very interesting, and it tallies with what backstageone said at the beginning of the year regarding the pros already being signed up back then (which was shouted down if I recall correctly). Glad Natalie is back, but would like to see Ian return as a pro as well.

Is there anymore gossip you can share? The Aliona stuff is very interestingly and also tallies with something that bastageone said about the other pro's not liking her.

Good news about Nat and I think its only fair that the pro's are getting two year contracts as that provides job security for them. Hopefully that is the case for all the Pro's returning this year.

What I would say about last year is that the pro's were shouting for tens for Kellie and Kevin last year and I don't think Jay and Aliona had much support from the Pro's. Not like Ian to be like that, but you can't like everyone I guess.

Why do you think that Kellie and Kevin had 10's being shouted at them? And I completely disagree with you saying how there wasn't much support from the pro's for Jay and Aliona I think I must have been watching something completely different from you then my bad

It's clear that there was a small group of pros that didn't like Aliona.

Others that do like her, or have nothing against her.

Kieran is a guy who is very fair and honest. This was an answer by him on Macmaniacs.org.

On a SCD note – we loved seeing Aliona and Jay win this year and we were sad to hear that Aliona won’t be returning next year to Strictly. What are your thoughts on the series overall?

Yeah, Aliona just mic dropped it and dropped the bomb that she is leaving – haha. It’s gonna be a great loss to the show but she is a top girl. I have a lot of time for her and no doubt whatever she wants to do next will be a huge success.

In terms of partnering, Aliona was paired with Michael Pattie in the People's Strictly and in an interview, he gave his opinion of Aliona. Michael was 57 and found it very difficult to learn, but eventually allowed himself to enjoy it and it worked out very well in the end.

Quoting one paragraph where Michael is talking about Aliona.

Michael was often frustrated at his progress but loved working with Aliona, and the pair became such good friends. “I love her to bits. She is so warm and genuine.” that she spent a lot of time socialising him and Patsy and their friends when she came to Dumfries for training. He was thrilled that Aliona took the time to visit the Alexandra Unit and Ward 15 at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary with him – and that she was so impressed with Dumfries that she brought her husband Vincent Kavanagh for a visit, too.

Flavia and Vincent have been invited back
That tweet from CelebUK Twitter was very misleading. Vincent & Flavia are apparently invited back every year and Vincent said as much in an interview last week in which he also said that even though they were asked back, that they wouldn't be going back. I'm glad Flavia quickly confirmed that they wouldn't be returning to avoid any more speculation/confusion.

They left the show on good terms with SCD and the SCD production team go and watch their shows but I think V&F have ticked that box and moved on now. Maybe some day I could see Vincent return but I doubt Flavia ever will.

I would love them to be invited back for a showdance though. I miss them.

I really like Aliona - I think she has a sweet personality and is a beautiful dancer and an amazing choreographer. I wonder if Ian (who never strikes me as a particularly likeable person if I'm honest) and the other pros don't like her because she has an almost aloof quality - as if she knows she's not one of the gang but she doesn't really care? She certainly never seemed to be one for pushing herself forward or selling her soul - she just wanted to bring out the very best in her partners.

Because they did
There was one dance in particular towards the end of the series that had Karen (& Jo?) and maybe Janette shouting 10-10-10 a bit too loudly. It was discussed at length in various threads here

Couldn't have said it better myself! I've never saw Aliona as the one trying to get a pass in to the 'gang' and i'm extremely happy she wasn't apart of that 'gang' she was her own woman and very independent strikes me as a strong willed woman too now if that makes her unpopular to some of the pros and viewers than so be it their loss really. But you've basically put everything in a nutshell for me

No I know that of course I know why there were 10's being shouted at them I was asking the previous poster why they personally think it was being shouted, just to get their opinion really just wanted to know if it's because KK as a pair were more likeable or purely because it's what the Clifton's do??

It says a lot for their enduring popularity that they are invited back again and again. Dancers of all round ability are becoming a rare thing on Strictly, another one being Aliona.

Very much looking forward to seeing V and F on tour later this week.

They were shouting for ten's but that would have been started by Joanne and Karen, nothing wrong with them supporting their man but not very nice for the other dancers.

I thought Jay and Aliona had a lot of support from the pros. Jay seemed to get on with everyone and in particular Tristan, Gleb, Alijaz and Giovanni.

Anton was also very supportive.

I LOVE it when people agree with me

On the subject of Ian, his relationship with Zoe is one of the nicest things about him in my opinion. They clearly have a very strong friendship and she adores him. Personally, I'm bored of the "I'll just get my wand out" double entendres and I think he's a bit of a cold fish. I'd like to see someone else in that role but I'm sure Zoe would be very upset about that and seeing as she has done so well in taking over from Claudia (something I didn't think would be possible) then she probably has a reasonable amount of pull. On another note, I know a job is a job but I had a lot of respect for Darren and Matthew for leaving when they were told that they weren't needed as pro dancers anymore. Ian and Robin seemed prepared to do ANY job in order to cling on to the Strictly bandwagon. Maybe that's a bit unfair but it showed a little bit of a lack of pride.

Well like anybody else they have their preference for winning and they wanted to show their support. At the end of the day its not the judges or pro's who pick the winner but the public and while they were not my winners I respect the public choice.
