The Young Pope..
Jude Law & Diane Keaton head this eight part HBO show about a young American (Law) who becomes Pope. It was actually filmed within the Vatican City & Rome last summer. I hope it gets a showing on Netflix or Amazon.

It won't end up neither as HBO have an exclusive deal where every one of their shows will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
I am looking forward to this. With the right role, Jude Law is an astonishing actor. |

Similarly, The Casual Vacancy and Parade's End were HBO/BBC co-productions so weren't on Sky Atlantic. |

I actually saw the first episode the other night (hubby got it online). Rewatching it though as it didn't have the Italian subtitles

Watched The Young Pope last night and I thought it was magnificent - the best drama on tv for ages.
It's like David Lynch meets Yes Minister - cinematic, surreal, slow, lush and fabulous. |

What a completely bonkers show. Not 100% convinced about Jude Law. It's beautifully shot. Will be interesting to see what transpires.

I've watched the first episode and removed it from my planner, I was falling asleep watching it, then it got weird at the end.

I thought it was interesting but what undermined it for me was that a guy like this would never become Pope. It would have been more appropriate to have such a character as a troublesome Roman Emperor.

I kind of enjoyed it but it was very dark.
I'm not sure if he is exceedingly devout, a total non believer or just mad. Will keep watching! |

I enjoyed how the old cardinals in the garden at the start were saying how bad Spencer would have been as he was too independent, and how lenny being young could be moulded and manipulated.
Lenny is clearly the manipulator, but to what end? I don't think he's going to turn out so ultra conservative as the ending implied - that's too easy. |
