I noticed yesterday that BBC Radio Kent has its own Friday Late Show with Steve Ladner since January this year not taking Paul Miller's regional Late Show from BBC Radio Solent.
Either the BBC has found a pot of money to run this late show which amazes me when everything else is being cut or they testing the water to roll this programme out regionally either replacing Paul Miller on Fridays only or Monday to Friday.
I think this is following the same pattern of what happened with the late shows in the Midlands and Yorkshire. Graham Torrington started out on just BBC WM with the rest of the West Midlands joining the East Midlands for the late show from BBC Nottingham with Amanda Bowman. Then a year later the two regions were split in half with the West Midlands taking Graham Torrington and East Midlands remaining with Jenny Barsby who replaced Amanda Bowman. Then another year the East Midlands late show is axed with listeners joining Graham Torrington.
In Yorkshire the Late Show with Russell Walker from Leeds only went out across Yorkshire Mon - Thurs with Phil Butler on Fridays from Sheffield and Diana Luke on Saturdays and Sundays from Sheffield. BBC Radio Leeds decided to have a Sunday edition of the Russell Walker Late Show opting out of Diana Luke this happened for about 6 months then Diana Luke's Sunday show was axed with the whole region joining Russell Walker.
The Friday Late Show on BBC Radio Kent is nothing special to opt out from Paul Miller for it is basically a late night phone - in with music. You could understand more if it was something special like a specialist music show presented by someone like Roger Day or Dave Cash.
If Steve Ladner takes over the Late Show do you think the afternoon show on BBC Radio Kent will be presented by Pat Marsh and Erika North?
