An elderly friend of mine has told me she has bought a 'BBC tablet' for £99. I have no idea what she means.

She is going to bring it over for me to set it up tomorrow. Has anyone got any idea what it is? If it's a no-name Chinese Android thing I'm tempted to tell her to send it back.

Maybe they are fixated on their main use of it to be for BBC iPlayer?

I strongly suspect it will be Some of these are advertised in newspapers with the BBC Iplayer logo pretty prominent, but I've never seen one actually branded a 'BBC tablet'. I doubt that would be allowed.

She *may* have some rights under distance selling regulations- try the advice forum here on DS or Money Saving Expert.

I too doubt very much that the BBC would be allowed to do this, and if they did then certain parts of DS and the media would have been up in arms about it.

It sounds like it is trading on the fact that it can be used for BBC iPlayer. I know of two people who refer to their tablet as an iPad, and they comment that they use "OK Google" as a voice command (which means that it's actually an Android tablet, not an iPad of course).

Not necessarily, you can use it on iOS (as you can Cortana for that matter), though obviously it's not as well integrated or fully featured as it is on Android.

Point taken, although the two people to whom I referred definitely had an Android tablet

Funny. For a few seconds I even wondered if it was the BBC micro:bit. It's definitely a tablet. I will find out tonight.

It was this one:

She's going to try and send it back. It was £140 with the keyboard accessory!

That was never worth £260, was it?

They charged her £140 including a keyboard/case. It was advertised in the Daily Mail.

I think the ad has a typo. It says the "full price" was £260, but it also says the "full price" with case and keyboard was £139.90, which makes no sense.

It got sent back weeks ago. I would have to have been the one supporting a no-name Android tablet with a very low resolution screen until it finally broke.
