Craig David - hero to zero to hero??
Back in the day Craig David was like Sam Smith or Ed Sheeran, then he became a laughing stock.
Now even Capital "we only play current chart music by artists under 30" FM is playing Re-rewind and going on like he's the best thing since sliced bread. I've nothing particularly against him - I just find it very odd. |

It is very odd.
I think it's an example of things we thought of as naff coming around again. The comeback will not work, Bo Selecta damaged his credibility so badly. |

Craig David's recent resurgence in the music industry has been helped greatly by an entire new generation of garage, RnB & grime artists looking up to him as a huge influence in their work.
You forget his debut, Born to Do It is now an astonishing 16 years old!In the time he was away, he never gave up music and had relocated to Miami where he made a new career for himself as a resident DJ. |

He gets described as a garage legend but as far as I remember he only did two garage tracksin the early 2000s rewind and woman trouble (with Robbie craig).
He did a few more in the late 2000s which charted low. |

Let's not hail him a big success just yet. His comeback single only peaked at number 10 but i haven't seen the total sales so it may of sold well
The real test will be to see how follow up singles and the album does. and I agree. He is often associated with the garage genre but he was never a garage artist apart from a few songs he did with The Artful Dodger garage group. His music has always been a mixture of r&b and pop. |

Conor Maynard releases a song produced by Craig David who also starred in the music video and it bombed.
Craig David appears on The X Factor live final. Simon says "I like you" Craig David is suddenly popular again. Amazing what can be achieved when Simon Cowell likes you.

To be blunt it just shows what a load of sh*te today's music scene is. 16 years ago everybody thought Craig David's style of music was a joke and nothing you would take seriously. Today's kids now think that dated, now retro, UK garage sound of 16 years ago is somehow cutting edge
. To be fair in comparison, old Craig David songs do sound better than most of the dog plop that they have influenced. Gimme the So Solid Crew anyday... |

Good for him I say, we'll have to hold off judgement until the album like but his recent tracks have been a decent effort

I've never been a huge fan of Craig (although I have a few of his early singles), but I think it's kind of cool that someone who was completely written off my the music industry as a joke after bo-selecta can have a comeback seemingly out of the blue.
Maybe it's my early 00's nostalgia talking

I quite like his music but I saw him interviewed recently and he sounded like a right ****.
Like a poor man's Kanye - very sad.

Fair play to him, he's riding the nostalgia wave and I think he deserves a bit more goodwill after the way Bo Selecta effectively destroyed his career last time around.
That said, I don't think much of his current material. I object to constantly being told I ain't ever heard nothing like this when I'm fairy sure I have, back in 1999. |

I know I can look it up lol but what's this bo selecta thing tbat everybody seems to think ruined his career?
In regards to Craig David, the Bo Selecta parody became that popular it actually overshadowed Craig David and eventually killed his career off. I remember him saying he was annoyed because people would come up to him and do Bo Selecta impressions to his face. |

Great to Craig David back in the mainstream and enjoying success once again. The next album will be telling if he has staying power or if it's just nostalgia. I hope he has a few hit records up his sleeve!

Craig David was always good as far as I'm concerned, let's not forget how big he was and how many records he sold back in the day. Unfortunately Bo Selecta ruined his cred, but as said already, now people coming up in UKG, UKHH, R&B, Grime, etc. who liked his stuff all big him up. All those genres of music are having a massive resurgence and he's been able to ride the wave. Fair play to him. Its better than the majority of crap in the charts.

The Bo Selecta thing was so cruel because the parody wasn't based on his personality at all. Leigh Francis just took Craig David and decided to add a load of random, 'wacky' character traits. It could have been anyone in the music industry. But the character became so well known that it just eclipsed the real life version.
