If you were coming in as the new producer (Kate Oates) what casting changes would you make?

Never mind the cast I'd get rid of most of the writing team first. They are awful. I'd make sure that past storylines aren't forgotten and make better use of the new set. Yes there are some characters that I'd like axed in an ideal world but that won't solve Corrie's fundamental flaws.

Sack the entire storylining team, Cotton, and Marsh, then work from there. I'd also require all of those mentioned to return the entirety of their last 18 months of salary.

I'd agree with sorting out the writing and storylining team first and making a more effective use of the set. Get some of the characters in different locations and get them interacting with characters they don't usually interact with. Get rid of a few stale locations (Bistro, factory, the gym) and make the Rovers the community meeting point again. If all else fails and the changes don't work for certain characters, then it's time to start looking at trimming some of the cast.

I've never seen the point of having the Rovers and the Bistro in the same location. Maybe the Bistro should go.

I do like the Bistro actually it's a more modern meeting place and suits the younger characters who wouldn't likely hang around in a place like the Rovers. I'd shut down the factory and have more residents working away from the street. It's all so claustrophobic.

I don't think cast changes are needed other than Phelan been gone again

however, the writers/storyliners should be fearing for their jobs

I would kill Cotton off, in a very grursome end, and i woukd get rid of Izzy, Gary and Anna, and not to metion all the writing team would be sacked without further pay.

Good point. Maybe have the Bistro but give the Rovers a make over. See people of Weatherfield talking about other work locations.

You cant get rid of King Phelan, we need him☺

The writers should all be removed though, along with anyone who defends them.

If I killed off Sean it would have to be a big dramatic gruesome ending. His exit deserves the full treatment so that we could celebrate the momentous occasion appropriately .

I will get the champagne ready, and after we are done we can pop over to EE to kill Jane and Sonia

Departures.

Sean Tully. Tired character, poor actor and has given everything that he can to the show. Time to let go. Izzy Armstrong. Same as Sean, Izzy has given everything she can and is becoming increasingly pointless and they are no longer playing to the actress strengths. Michael Rodwell. This character just hasn't worked, and now that they have split him and Gail and him and Eileen, we don't need him back. Sophie Webster. Sophie got lost about five years ago and is now a drain on the show. The character out grew Brooke Vincent.

Sharif and Yasmeen Nazir. These characters don't really add to the show, Alya and Zeedan can flourish without their influence, let them retire to France. Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape. I'd be sad to see Alan go, but Fiz and Tyrone are draining to watch. There is no coming back for these characters now and Jennie is an appalling actress. Sinead Tinker and Chesney Brown, dull characters that wouldn't missed. Send them to live with Joseph in Spain.

Dev Alahan, Mary Taylor and the Twins. Free up another house on the street, Mary has never quite recovered from the weird stalking Norris story. Dev is a tired character. Claire King deserves better. I would also recast Simon Barlow.

New Arrivals.

Daniel Osborne played by Elliot Tittensor. The Barlows need building up. Elliot is a decent actor and with some forward planning this could be a really strong decent addition to the unit.

Steph and Luke's parents played by Will Mellor and Sharon Duncan-Brewster, I'd also cast them a younger teenage brother. They would settle into the street as a normal family, it would then transpire that their mother suffers from bipolar disorder, and we would see the effect of her breakdown on the family.

Lynda Baron as Liz's bitter mother, it would transpire that Liz's parents never accepted Jim and it caused Liz and her parents to fall out, can Liz and her bitter mother make peace after all these years?

Returns.

Janice Battersyby. Janice would return to live alongside Leanne and a newly recasted Simon as Leanne buys the Rovers...

Dennis Tanner. Dennis deserves better than his last stint. Claudia Colby, I'd make Claudia the mother of Will Mellor's character linking her into the Britton family.

Debbie Webster, Kevin needs some fun and Debbie could certainly bring that into his life, and with Sophie and Rosie gone, the Websters need building up. Graeme Proctor. A unique comedy character that the show is missing, he would come back to support David following Kylie's arrest.

Noone mentioned Fiz which is surprising as along with Sean she is the most annoying character in my eyes. I would love to see a battleaxe character in the form of Lynda Barron or Patricia Routledge if they can't get Stephanie Cole back.

I'd love to see the back of Fizz, Chesney, Kirk, Izzy and Anna.

But I have to agree with other posters that the writing team needs more attention than the cast. Even getting rid of the deadwood won't help if those left are given rubbish material.

Write out the Nazirs because they have added nothing to the show.
Kill off Tracy because all storylines are pretty much the same and she is never developed.
Bring back Rosie Webster.

Departures:
I would axe Sean Tully, Izzy Armstrong, Fiz Stape, Chesney Brown, Sinead Tinker, Michael Rodwell, Yasmeen Nazir, Sharif Nazir, Johnny Connor, Caz, make Billy Mayhew recurring for funerals, weddings etc.

Returns:
Janice and Toyah Battersby
Rosie Webster - possibly recast
Peter Barlow
Kirsty Soames - I'm not sure if this SL would need Fiz to work or not, as I can see it working with just Tyrone.

New characters I'd like to see:
The family of Luke and Steph, like another poster on this thread already suggested.
Andy's real father and mother
Some new Barlow additions as they need to be rejuvenated.
New love interests for Jenny, Sarah, maybe Alya (if she doesn't get back with Gary)

Well for starters I'd get rid of Sean...

Yet another chance for people to moan about Antony Cotton

The new Connors, plus Sean, Izzy, Fiz, Kirk should all be killed off and shut the factory for good. Also shut down the community centre, florists and gym.

Give the Nazirs one last chance. Axe Alya. Zedan is a nice lad with a lot more potential.

Recast Simon Barlow.

Introduce more of Luke and Steph's family.

Axe Chesney and Sinead.

Expand the Platt, Webster and Barlow families.

Axe Steve and Michelle. Tracy and Rob to run the Rovers.

Antony Cotton has signed a new contract so won't be going anywhere.

They could just pay him not to appear on screen.
