Kate Oates clearly does not have the bottle to axe Cotton.

Why oh why does he survive every year when it comes to having his contract renewed? he brings nothing to the show yet constantly survives while others like Philip Lowrie who played Dennis Tanner were axed?

I'm not the biggest fan of the character or actor but you really do seem to have a too big an issue about it.

Yes, he's a dull character and Cotton's acting skills are non-existent but we have Billy, Todd and now Pablo and whether you like it or not, gay men like Sean do exist too. Just ignore him is all.

There is always some "story" about how he gets a new contract. If we are to believe the papers Cotton receives a new contact every six months or so, which sounds ridiculous. I wouldn't believe anything they print.

It simply beggars belief. He survives producer after producer, yet, in the past, we've seen decent actors like Philip Lowrie and Rachel Leskovac get the chop. Outrageous.

He must be popular or deemed worthy of contract renewal, I agree I don't see the point in his character, he another deadwood, but they seem to want to keep him on.

Who on earth is Pablo? Should this have been in a spoiler?

Is Anthony Cotton really disliked everywhere outside of DS? I read an article this morning describing him as a "popular character". I follow Corrie on Instagram and he doesn't seem to get many negative comments there. Anyone know the general consensus on him outside this forum?

Plenty of people say it but i'll say it again. He has to know about some skeletons is some people's closets that are pretty high up at ITV.

Which makes the character he plays extremely realistic.

I think he's generally well-liked among general fans, he has that camp mould that a lot of characters have had in the shows history and fits a niche. He works behind the bar as a character.

That doesn't stop him being an absolutely atrocious actor.

The hatred seems very intense on DS for some reason!! Much of it seems to stem from AC's appearance on 'I'm a Celeb...' which means absolutely nothing to me as I don't watch all that sort of crap!!
Most Corrie watchers I speak to don't seem to mind one way or the other about Sean!!

My main gripe with him, apart from AC's extremely limited scting skills is that the character just hasn't developed at all in the 12 years he's been on the show!! Having said that he doesn't bother me like say Tracy does!! Now there IS a character long overdue a 'nasty accident' with the producer's axe!!

It has been going before his appearance on 'I'm a Celeb...', but of course this forum just likes to use that as an excuse. I don't know why anyone is bothered what an actor is like in real life and whatever he did on that programme it was four years ago. Time to get over it.

Maybe they do that to see the reaction on DS?

Even if true, (and by 'well known' you of course mean you read it in the gutter press and/or a friend of a friend's cousin's postman said so ), so what? I meet unpleasant people every day in real life. I don't then spend my life campaigning on a minor social media forum for them to be sacked from their jobs.
