Anyone else think Rennee and Terry should return to the cobbles. Audrey could be going through old things belonging to Alf and discover a series of letters between Renee and Alf explaining that Renee faked her own death, with Alf's assistance by defrauding the hospital and the funeral home, to avoid paying up debts she had run up in secret. She retired to the algarve where she's lived ever since. Audrey decides to track Renee down and demand answers regarding what she did. At the same time unbeknownst to Renee, Terry (recast as Bob Mason died of cancer in 2004) decides to buy the factory and start a call centre up. When Renee learns that Terry's moved to Weatherfield she runs at the chance to see him (he still thinks she's dead). She turns up shocking the older members of the community and eventually getting carted off to Weatherfield police station.

And then taken to hospital, my plot would involve it coming out to Audrey, through Renees letters to Alf - dating to a few months after his death - that Renee did get hit by the truck but the woman who went into the operating theatre was her identical twin, that neither of them had known about until shortly before, who had terminal cancer and had agreed to be part of the set-up. Renee was treated in a private hospital, survived and went to live in the Algarve, leaving Alf behind.

Another potential story would be Hilda going off her rocker and turning up at the door of the rovers to put a turn in as cleaner for Mrs Walker.

Ha ha, this is amazing. Can we squeeze in a cameo from Ida Clough? Maybe she could've been Alf's mule, ferrying back fake passports and such. Just ... because.

Unfortunately Helene Palmer who played Ida died in 2011 and I think it would be grossly unfair to recast a character that was in the show for over a decade.

Although I respectfully take your point on board, I think that a recast Ida Clough played by Alice Barry could work.

It could work but is there really any point in doing it?

No sorry not with you on this one at all!!

We actually saw the accident that killed Renee & no way was she coming back from that!!

Also what's the point?? There's barely anyone around now with any connection to the Bradshaws!!

Possibly - I always thought Ida Clough was the 'one that got away' so to speak, the Street legend who never quite made it. There is definitely untapped potential in the character and a secret fake-identity mule storyline is the way to go. She could have been running all kinds of errands for Baldwin behind the scenes that we will slowly learn about. If Alice Barry is too 'in demand' to take on the role then the next choice for me is Liz Dawn.

I love this idea Corrie_Fan2. Hilda turning up in her tabard ready to start a hard day's graft cleaning The Rovers gents. Jean Alexander was famously nominated for a Bafta for the role of Hilda and I can just see her perfecting the glassy-eyed look that is common in senility.

It would be great be sadly Jean Alexander has stated that she will never reprieve the role of Hilda.

I think you're stretching the credibility of the story line somewhat and it would be better if any mule was a character we know to be alive, Suzie Birchall would be good as she has links to existing cast.

As another poster said, Jean Alexander has retired and vowed not to take up the role again. Didn't stop me writing an extremely badly written script for it:

EXT. ROVERS RETURN. DAY

HILDA stands, curlers in hair and green raincoat adorned hammering against the doors of the rovers return, a slightly vacant stare accenting her face. When there's no answer she begins to thump even harder against the woodwork.

Hilda: (full belt) Mrs Walker? Mrs Walker?

Liz comes down, cigarette in hand a dressing gown adorned.

Hilda: Morning Bet, stop here last night? I was saying, only last night, to our Stan that walk down the road can be frightening can't it, eggspecially with that fella doing the rounds in York.

Liz stares at Hilda in utter bemusement.

Liz: And who would you be?
Hilda: You trying to be funny?
Liz: (calling up the stairs) Steve? You hired a new skivvy?
Hilda: Steve don't run the pub, he works at Baldwins. Show me to Mrs Walker and I'll have it out with her.

Rita walks past in the street. Seemingly oblivious to the fact Rita looks 30 years older Hilda waves her across, beaming grin on her face.

Rita: Is everything okay?
Hilda: Tell this woman I'm cleaner of the rovers.
Rita: (struggling to stifle a laugh) Hilda, if you want to be cleaner of the Rovers you be cleaner of the Rovers. Show her in Bet!

Liz's face begins to take on the same vacant look as Hilda's.

The door shuts leaving Liz and Rita in the street.

Liz: What you go and do that for?
Rita: Ay, she's harmless. Used to work here.
Liz: When? Before the first world war?
Rita: The 70s and 80s, pet. I'll give the nick a bell and get her back in her home in no time, just keep her in their and enjoy the free cleaning.

Cheryl Murray who played Suzie has MS these days, I don't think she acts any more.

Renee's brother - he was around in 1976. He was on the street before Renee.

You can't have seen much of Alf or Renee if you think they were capable of that.
